AFC playoff picture: Ravens move into the No. 1 spot after Chiefs lose to Eagles

We’re looking at an updated look at the AFC playoff picture and the Baltimore Ravens are currently the No. 1 seed ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs

There’s a new No. 1 team in the AFC, as Baltimore has ascended in the AFC playoff picture after the Chiefs’ 21-17 loss to the Eagles on Monday night.

The Ravens are 8-3 and looking like the best team in the AFC after a 38-20 win over the Bengals on Thursday night.

John Harbaugh’s team took a big step forward with their dominating win over the Bengals.

In the AFC, Cleveland outlasted Pittsburgh with Dorian Thompson-Robinson at quarterback, while Miami, Jacksonville, and Buffalo all came away with huge wins.

Here’s an updated look at the AFC playoff picture after Kansas City’s loss.

AFC North news: Steelers fire offensive coordinator Matt Canada ahead of Week 12

The Pittsburgh Steelers have fired offensive coordinator Matt Canada ahead of their Week 12 matchup vs. Bengals

The Pittsburgh Steelers have followed suit after watching the Buffalo Bills offense respond positively to their offensive coordinator being fired.

Head coach Mike Tomlin has decided to fire offensive coordinator Matt Canada ahead of the team’s Week 12 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

According to Mike Garafalo, QB coach Mike Sullivan and RB coach Eddie Faulkner will work together to assume the offensive coordinator role following Canada’s firing. This will be Sullivan’s third time in an OC role, having done so previously with the Giants and Buccaneers.

Pittsburgh’s offense ranks 28th in points per game (16.6), 28th in yards per game (280.1), and 31st in passing yards per game (170) this season.

They’re 6-4 despite having been outgained in every game.

Where do the Ravens sit in the AFC playoff picture?

We’re looking at an updated look at the AFC playoff picture and the Baltimore Ravens are currently the No. 2 seed behind the Kansas City Chiefs

The Ravens are 7-3, and even after a 33-31 loss to the Browns in Week 10, they sit atop the AFC North, but that standing alone won’t create much separation, as three other division rivals are also currently in the postseason picture.

If the postseason started this weekend, the AFC North would be represented by three teams and the division winners from the AFC East, AFC West, and two AFC South teams.

Baltimore and Cincinnati are set for a high-profile matchup on Thursday night, and a loss would drop the Bengals to 5-5 on the season and down to as low as the 11th or 12th seed in the conference.

With the final day of preparation underway, here’s an updated look at the AFC playoff picture.

Ravens lose 33-31 after questionable offensive play-calling vs. Browns

The Ravens converted just 25% of their third-down plays in Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns

Baltimore Ravens fans are likely dismayed after the Browns came out victorious 33-31 in week 10. Forcing two interceptions and sacking Lamar Jackson three times, the Browns finished the game with 16 fourth-quarter points.

The Ravens converted just 25% of their third-down plays, and quarterback Lamar Jackson was simply unimpressive. Rattled by defensive end Myles Garrett all game, Jackson never caught rhythm, completing only thirteen of his 23 pass attempts.  Still, offensive coordinator Todd Monken chose to sequence in pass plays instead of leaning on the running game – a stoic choice that led to a crucial interception by Browns defensive back Greg Newsome II in the fourth quarter.

Sure, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. registered a touchdown, and wide receiver Zay Flowers had a few good plays. Still, Monken abandoned the running game late, opening the window for a Browns comeback.

After the substantial divisional loss, Baltimore will have just four days to prepare for a Cincinnati Bengals offense that is beginning to catch fire.

AFC playoff picture: Ravens sit as early 2nd seed ahead of matchup vs. Browns

We’re looking at an updated look at the AFC playoff picture and the Baltimore Ravens are currently the No. 2 seed behind the Kansas City Chiefs

The Ravens are 7-2 and atop the AFC North, but that standing alone won’t create much separation, as three other division rivals are also currently in the postseason picture.

If the postseason started this weekend, the AFC North would be represented by all four teams, along with the division winners from the AFC East, AFC South, and AFC West.

Baltimore and Cleveland are set for a high-profile matchup on Sunday, and a loss could drop the Browns down onto the bubble and as low as the No. 9 overall seed.

With preparation for Sunday underway, here’s a first look at the AFC playoff picture.

Ravens allow four sacks as Steelers pull the upset 17-10

A struggling Ravens O-line allowed the Steelers four sacks in Sunday’s loss. Moving forward offensive coordinator Todd Monken must adjust.

Earlier last week, I explained how the Baltimore Ravens needed to be selective with their play-calling in week 5. Well, a struggling Ravens offensive line allowed the Steelers four sacks in Sunday’s loss. Moving forward offensive coordinator Todd Monken must adjust.

Certainly, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was prepared to fluster Lamar Jackson as much as possible. While the Steelers offense struggled mightily, Pittsburgh’s defense held the Ravens scoreless in the entire second half.

As I’ve stated before, Monken should’ve known to minimize Jackson’s volume passing the ball with the “clear” offensive line problems. Sunday, Jackson completed just 57% of his passes as Monken completely abandoned the running game that led to the 1st quarter touchdown.

Hyper-Analysis

The offensive success the Ravens had in week 4 was sorta deceptive. Though they scored 28 points, their 55 total plays ran were a result of three Browns turnovers. Furthermore, the Ravens were only 4/12 on third-down in that game and still allowed three sacks. These flaws led to their week 5 debacle.

Now, the Ravens sit at 3-2 just one game ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals who may have caught fire Sunday. The Ravens need to recalibrate as this loss may be a turn for the worse in a highly competitive AFC this season.

Baltimore (2-0) is in sole possession of first place in the AFC North and one of only two undefeated teams in the conference after a 27-24 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
