Victor Wembanyama labeled as Spurs’ most untouchable trade asset

Victor Wembanyama will be with the San Antonio Spurs for a long, long time.

The San Antonio Spurs have a great future ahead of them, and Victor Wembanyama is at the head of the snake. The 20-year-old Frenchman just finished up what may have been the best rookie season in NBA history, and he’s the focal point of the Spurs’ future. So, when Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report made a list of every team’s most untouchable asset, Wembanyama was the obvious option for San Antonio.

“Imagine if you called up Gregg Popovich and presented an actual trade offer for Victor Wembanyama. What do you think would happen next?” Buckley wrote. “You’re banned for life from the holiday card list, obviously, but that wouldn’t be it. Once the string of expletives were exhausted, your number and email address are automatically blocked, and again, that’s probably still not it.”

“Anyway, it would be an obvious waste of time, as the recently crowned Rookie of the Year has been everything the Spurs could have imagined and then some. If the 20-year-old stays healthy, he could have a record-breaking future ahead. He’s already off to a one-of-a-kind start as the first rookie to tally 1,500 points, 750 rebounds, 250 blocks and 250 assists.”

Wembanyama isn’t leaving San Antonio anytime soon, if at all.
