Number Eight: Max Duggan, TCU
Max Duggan had a breakout performance last season as a freshman against the University of Texas. However his season had a lot of ups and downs, not surprising considering it was his freshman season. Down the stretch, when Duggan struggled so did the entire Horned Frogs football team. They lost four of their final five games. Duggan threw just four touchdowns and nine interceptions.
The now sophomore quarterback will look to raise his game and those around him as TCU tries to regain some magic. He will have a new running back in Zachary Evans who will look to lighten the load of the young qb. The dual threat will need to continue to utilize the running game to put pressure on defenses.
Number Seven: Alan Bowman, Texas Tech
Alan Bowman has a lot to prove in 2020, mostly stemming from can he stay healthy? As a freshman in 2018, the Red Raiders and then head coach Kliff Kingsbury thought they had their next quarterback. He played in eight games before collapsing his lung. Against Houston, Bowman threw for five touchdowns and over 600 yards. He was looking like an Air Raid quarterback poised to set passing records.
The following year after recovering from injuries, it was Alan Bowman’s job once again. He had a new staff with Matt Wells taking over for Kingsbury. It was more of the same. He wouldn’t make it to the middle of September before the injury bug bit him again. Bowman will be in competition once again in 2020 to prove he is the guy. He has thrown for 3,658 yards and 23 touchdowns in 11 career games.
