Big 12 Football: Ranking all 10 quarterbacks

When it comes to Big 12 football, quarterbacks get all of the glory and all of the blame when it doesn’t go well. Let’s rank the passers.

In the Big 12 Conference it has been all about the offense. Of course that all starts with the gunslinger at each school. Over recent years the names of Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Colt McCoy, Bryce Petty and many others have led high-powered offenses onto the field.

With so many quarterbacks ready to be the next great Big 12 quarterback, we ranked each one to determine who reigns supreme.

Number Ten: Thomas MacVittie, Kansas

Former Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback and current Jayhawk makes the list at number ten. MacVittie started out as a Panthers quarterback and after redshirting in 2016 and appearing in just three games in 2017, he went the junior college route. He would end up at Mesa Community College where he threw for 1,064 yards and 16 touchdowns in six games.

He will likely be the starter for the Jayhawks after incumbent starter Carter Stanley graduated in 2019. He has the prototypical size for a NFL quarterback was ranked the number two pro style quarterback prior to his transfer per JCgridiron.com. Along with Les Miles in his second season, MacVittie will try and bring Kansas out of the doldrums of the Big 12.

Number Nine: Jarrett Doege, WVU

Jarret Doege’s name might sound familiar, he is the younger brother of former Texas Tech quarterback Seth Doege. Much like his brother, he is playing for Neal Brown who served as offensive coordinator for the Red Raiders. Jarret transferred to West Virginia after two seasons with Bowling Green State.

Doege played in just four games a season ago. He completed 65.8 percent of his passes for the Mountaineers. He will likely be the starter heading into the 2020 season as WVU tries to get consistency out of the position after losing Will Grier to the NFL prior to last season. Doege replaced fellow quarterback transfer Austin Kendall who struggled last season after coming over from Oklahoma.
