The San Francisco Giants (65-60) and the Philadelphia Phillies (68-57) meet Tuesday for the 2nd game of a 3-game series. First pitch from Citizens Bank Park is set for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Giants vs. Phillies odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.
Season series: Giants lead 3-1 after losing 10-4 in Monday’s series opener
The Giants have really been scuffling lately, dropping 9 of their last 12 games. San Francisco still holds the final NL Wild Card spot despite its recent struggles.
The Phillies hold the top NL Wild Card spot. Their offense has been firing on all cylinders lately, scoring 7 or more runs 9 times in their last 15 games.
Giants at Phillies projected starters
LHP Kyle Harrison vs. RHP Taijuan Walker
Harrison will be making his big-league debut. He is 1-3 with a 4.66 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, 6.6 BB/9 and 14.4 K/9 through 65 2/3 IP across 20 starts for AAA-Sacramento.
- Has made it through 5 frames just once and has gotten through the 4th innings just 5 times in 20 starts
- His swing-and-miss stuff looks legit, but he has really struggled with his control. He has been better in that regard lately, with no walks in 3 of his last 4 outings, though he issued 4 free passes in 2 innings in the other start during that timeframe.
Walker (13-5, 4.03 ERA) makes his 25th start. He has a 1.28 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 and 7.2 K/9 through 131 2/3 IP.
- Was skipped during the last turn through the rotation after his recent skills took a nosedive. Though his 4.07 ERA in his last 4 starts is respectable, he has as many walks as strikeouts (12) during that time.
- Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 6 BB, 2 K in 13-5 loss to Minnesota Twins on Aug. 12
- 2023 home stats: 6-2, 3.11 ERA (66 2/3 IP, 23 ER) with 4.2 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 12 starts
- Career vs. Giants: 3-3, 4.50 ERA (42 IP, 21 ER) with 6.9 K/9 in 8 starts

Giants at Phillies picks and predictions
Prediction
Phillies 7, Giants 5
Moneyline
Harrison has into trouble this season with walks and that trend will likely continue at the major league level. He can’t be expected to work deep into the game today so the Giants will have to rely heavily on their bullpen. Relievers Jakob Junis and Sean Manaea are likely unavailable after working the last 2 days and Alex Wood (19 pitches Sunday) could be off the table as well.
The Phillie bats have been on a roll and could deliver another big game in this spot. Back the PHILLIES (-140).
Run line/Against the spread
Walker hasn’t looked like himself lately, which prompted the team to give him a little extra rest following his most recent outing. Until he shows that he’s back on track, it’s tough to be confident in his performance. Therefore, expect the Giants to keep this fairly close and AVOID this line.
Over/Under
Both offenses look to be in pretty good spots in this one. They’re playing in a hitter-friendly environment with one pitcher having control issues and making his debut, and the other coming off a string of shaky starts. There should be plenty of offensive fireworks so hammer OVER 9 (-110).
