After two dominant performances by Texas, many are beginning to believe that Steve Sarkisian’s team could win the Big 12 this year.
It’s still very early in the season, but the Longhorns looked unstoppable against in-state rival Texas Tech last week. If they’re able to showcase some consistency, it’s tough to imagine this offense struggling against any conference opponent.
Texas currently has the No. 3 scoring offense in the country and is No. 2 in third down conversion percentage. Their rushing attack behind Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, and Keilan Robinson is the most dangerous in the Big 12, and currently ranks No. 7 in the nation.
Their recent success on offense and the disciplined style of play that was showcased the last two weeks was enough for The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel to predict that Texas will win the Big 12 this season.
Somehow the Big 12 is now a defense-dominated conference. The only team whose offense really scares you right now? Texas.

The conference is nothing like many expected prior to the season. Baylor and Oklahoma State are surprisingly finding more success than programs such as Iowa State and TCU. The favorite to win the Big 12, Oklahoma, has looked very underwhelming and narrowly escaped a few upsets within the first four weeks.
It’s safe to say that the conference title is up for grabs, and will likely come down to which team can ride a wave of consistency throughout the next few weeks. It’s tough to bet against Texas at this point, though.
