Possible trade up?
While Diggs is Beane’s “first-round pick,” he did make a bit of a joke on how he’s going to make himself feel better about not having that actual pick.
“Day 1 will be hard, we’ll just look at some videos of Stefon Diggs when 22 comes up. Beyond that, we’ll just be patient and just go through it and watch it,” Beane said.
But on a more serious note, Beane did mention possibly moving around on Day 2 of the draft. Moving up? Not out of the question.
“The big thing will be when Day 1 is over, which we do whether we have a pick or not. We’ll stay for a little bit and stare at the (draft) board and start looking over, ‘OK, what’s on the board that we like here? Is there anybody left in our first round grades?'” Beane said. “How long does a guy stay there before we make a move?”
Beane added that the scouting department will look at teams both before and after the Bills in the second round and see what their “needs” are. That will help the Bills decide if they’d trade up, stand pat, or hope a certain player will even be there later on in the draft.
Of note, the Bills traded up in the second round for Cody Ford at last year’s draft and Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott was apart of the team when it traded up for Zay Jones in 2017.
