Women’s basketball’s comeback comes up short against Minnesota

The Nebraska women’s basketball team traveled up to Minnesota for a Sunday afternoon conference showdown. The Huskers fell behind early, entering halftime down 32-19.

Nebraska sparked a couple of comebacks in the second half, cutting the lead down to 59-58 entering the final minute. But a 3-pointer by the Golden Gophers in the final minute ended the Huskers’ comeback, resulting in a 62-58 defeat.

Alexis Markowski led Nebraska in scoring and rebounding on the afternoon, dropping 17 points and securing 14 rebounds. This makes it Markowski’s 11th double-double of the season and her 32nd double-double of her career.

Jaz Shelley finished runner-up in scoring for Nebraska in the loss. Shelley scored 12 points on the afternoon, all from three-point range, going 4-of-12 from beyond the arc.

Freshman Natalie Potts dropped double-digit points as well for the Huskers, tallying up 10 points in the loss and going five-of-nine in total shooting.

With the loss, Nebraska falls to 12-5 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. The Huskers will host Michigan for their next game on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and can be viewed on B1G+.
