Woj: Celtics trade Juancho Hernangomez to Spurs in 3-team deal netting Bol Bol, PJ Dozier

Boston will save roughly $4.3 million on their salary cap impact with the trade.

The Juancho Hernangomez era of the Boston Celtics has come to a close with new reporting from ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski revealing that the Celtics are trading the Spanish forward to the San Antonio Spurs in a three-team deal that will send Bryn Forbes to the Denver Nuggets and both Bol Bol and PJ Dozier to the Celtics.

Both Bol and Dozier will miss considerable time with respective injuries, the former eight weeks to three months with foot surgery and the latter the season with an ACL tear. Dozier, who will be in his second stint with Boston, might never suit up for the team given he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, while Bol will be a restricted free agent by season’s end.

The trade will shave off about $4.3 million from their current roster cap hit, making getting out of the tax a much simpler affair should the team go that route.

Per Woj, the Celtics have no plans to waive either, and believe their Bird Rights could be useful this offseason. Bol had been averaging 2.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game with Denver, while Dozier recorded 5.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game with the Nuggets in 2021-22.
