No. 23 Texas upset by Kansas State 66-55

Kansas State hands Texas their first home loss of the season.

Texas has fallen back to mediocrity after a home loss to unranked Kansas State. Perhaps they never left mediocrity at all.

Kansas State is leaving Austin with a victory that feels stolen from the Horns. Texas controlled most of the game but not being able to separate from the Wildcats proved costly. After taking a 65-60 lead with three minutes left in the game, Texas missed a couple of crucial free throws and failed to pick up some key stops.

Despite a 25-point performance, Marcus Carr missed what would have been a game-winning step-back jumper as time expired.

With the 66-65 win, Kansas State’s conference record moves to 2-4 and Texas falls to 3-3.

Texas head coach Chris Beard believes the team needs to stick to what they are doing and show patience despite the early struggles.

“Six games into this, we’re 3-3. We’ve just got to stay the course. It’s a disappointing locker room for a lot of reasons, but we’ve got to stay the course.”

The preseason No. 5 team in the country will likely be unranked in next week’s polls. Not a good start to the Beard era.
