With pick #246, the Browns select OL Dawson Deaton

Nine selections, including an athletic center out of Texas Tech with their final selection:

The Cleveland Browns ended up drafting nine players in the 2022 NFL draft. With the team’s roster full of talent, some of the later picks are likely to be fighting to make the roster. Four of those selections were on the offensive side of the ball including the final selection.

With pick #246, the Browns selected OL Dawson Deaton from Texas Tech. The 6’6″, 306-pound lineman played mostly at center for the Red Raiders. While his body type seems to fit more for a tackle, his history is on the interior.

With J.C. Tretter being released this offseason, Cleveland is expected to have Nick Harris step in as the team’s starting center but also added Ethan Pocic at the position in free agency.

Deaton’s athletic profile is quite impressive:

With Kevin Stefanski’s wide zone run scheme, Deaton’s movement skills will be highly valued. At his size, it will be vital that he is able to control his pad level while on the move.

Following their nine selections, the Browns move on to undrafted free agents. We will keep you up to date with all reported signings by the team.
