Why Taulia Tagovailoa’s transfer to Miami makes the most sense

It makes so much sense to see Taulia Tagovailoa end up in Miami to play for the Miami Hurricanes.

On Friday night, news broke that Alabama quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa had entered the transfer portal. Taulia, the younger brother of Alabama star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had hoped to follow in his brother’s footsteps.  But after Tua who was drafted by the Miami Dolphins as the 5th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, many speculated that Taulia would choose to transfer, especially given the talented depth at the quarterback position at Alabama.

With Mac Jones and Bryce Young battling it out for the QB1 spot, it’s not too surprising Taulia entered the transfer portal. While at Alabama, he recorded 9 passes for 100 yards and 1 TD. He only played in 3 games in 2019: against Western Carolina, Arkansas, and Southern Mississippi.

In his junior and senior year in high school, Taulia recorded an impressive 7,504 yards and 71 touchdowns and only threw 13 interceptions for Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama.

But if you have followed either of the Tagovailoa’s stories, you’d know a few things: faith and family are very important to them. So much so that Tua Tagovailoa’s family moved to Alabama from Hawaii to be close to their son who was soon to become a star in Tuscaloosa.

And so, the question remains, where will Taulia end up now?

It makes so much sense to see Taulia Tagovailoa end up in Miami to play for the Miami Hurricanes. Not only would Taulia add to their depth chart, but he would be close to his older brother Tua, and his family.

And for the Hurricanes, it would be a win-win deal, especially after going 6-7 last season. Miami will have D’Eriq King who transferred from Houston for his senior year, and Taulia will have to sit one year before being eligible to play three. That’s if the NCAA transfer rules remain as they are. But regardless, Taulia would sit out this year which would give him more time to improve.

Could Taulia end up elsewhere? Absolutely.

But it would not be surprising one bit to see Taulia end up in the same city following in his brother Tua’s footsteps once again.

Just imagine, two Tagovailoa brothers playing football in the same city: Taulia Tagovailoa taking over as starting quarterback for the Miami Hurricanes while his brother Tua, takes over as QB1 for the Miami Hurricanes.

Only time will tell.
