Why Broncos fans should be excited about Jerry Jeudy

The Denver Broncos landed a huge steal in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft with Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy

The Denver Broncos spent much of the 2020 NFL Draft focusing on surrounding Drew Lock with talent on offense, and no selection was a bigger splash than their selection of Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy with the No. 15 overall pick.

Viewed by many as a top-10 player in the 2020 class, Jeudy is one of the best receiver prospects to enter the draft in some time, so for Denver to grab him without having to trade up was fantastic value.

Jeudy will complement new teammate Courtland Sutton perfectly in the Broncos’ offense. While Sutton is the bigger possession wideout who can secure 50-50 balls with ease, Jeudy is a dynamic and intelligent athlete who can make plays as the field-side, ‘Z’ receiver. Arguably the best route runner in the class, the 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner combines his acute understanding of leverage, footwork and releases with very good lateral agility and sharp hips to create separation like very few can.

The Broncos will likely make Jeudy their No. 2 weapon behind Sutton, which is a perfect way for the rookie to ease into the NFL game. While he could eventually become one of the league’s best receivers if all goes well, surrounding him with other targets early in his career will be a great way to ease some of that pressure off of him.

Between Jeudy, Sutton, Noah Fant and 2020 second-round pick K.J. Hamler, the Broncos have put together a young and fantastic group of playmakers for Lock to throw to. Factor in running backs Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay, and Denver has the arsenal to ideally help elevate Lock in his second season in the NFL. They appear to be going all-in with their young quarterback, and if all goes well with their young players’ development, they could be a legitimate playoff contender for years to come.
