Why Chiefs fans should be excited about Clyde Edwards-Helaire

The Kansas City Chiefs landed the perfect fit for their offense in LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Ah, the rich get richer. How did the rest of the league let this happen? With the final selection of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected former LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Edwards-Helaire was the definition of consistency at LSU where his dual-threat skill-set helped power the Tigers to an undefeated season en route to being crowned National Champions in 2019. Edwards-Helaire was a big-time weapon for the Tigers historically impressive offense.

Edwards-Helaire is an agile runner who reads the game at an incredibly high level. For as impressive as the top-end of this running back class is, nobody breaks tackles and forces missed tackles in the open field quite like Edwards-Helaire does.

He had to bid his time behind some really good running backs throughout his time in Purple and Gold, but he made magic happen once he became their starting running back this past season. Any questions about his inability to get on the field earlier than 2019 were certainly put to bed en route to an astounding 1,867 total yards and 17 touchdowns.

In addition to being such an impressive runner, Edwards-Helaire can be a big-time weapon in the passing game as well. In fact, that’s what makes him such an excellent fit for this already horrifying Chiefs offense.

For as many weapons as Kansas City has on O, and trust me it’s a lot of them, their ability to take advantage of favorable match-ups with versatility is what makes them so hard to stop. They already had a spoil of riches at their disposal, but the addition of Edwards-Helaire gives them yet another big-time weapon.

Good luck, NFL.

Signed,

Kansas City Chiefs.
