Marcel Brooks, Linebacker, Texas Christian
TCU has had an incredible offseason, landing 2020 five-star running back Zach Evans and highly coveted transfer linebacker Marcel Brooks from LSU. Brooks is a Flower Mound, Texas native and wanted to move to a school closer to home. Gary Patterson was able to lure the former five-star prospect to Fort Worth.
The reason Brooks does not have a set position is because of how versatile he is. Listed at 6-2 and 195 pounds, he can play outside linebacker as a pass rusher while also dropping in coverage, or he can line up as a defensive back either as the Horned Frogs’ nickelback or safety.
Brooks made an appearance in 11 of LSU’s 15 games, totaling eight tackles and 1.5 sacks. On first and second down, he would be lined up as a defensive back. When it came time to rush the passer on third down, he was one of the best freshmen in the country, despite not having numbers to show for it.
Already having the top defense in the Big 12, it is going to be exciting to see how Patterson uses Brooks in his 4-2-5 defense. TCU had four interceptions off Sam Ehlinger last season and it will only get harder for the quarterback with Brooks roaming around the entire field.
