Eric Monroe is the second former Louisiana State Tiger to find a new home in the Big 12 Conference. Monroe was the third-ranked safety and ninth-ranked prospect in the state of Texas out of the 2016 recruiting class. The graduate transfer will head to Lubbock and will likely be in the mix as a starter.

Monroe only appeared in 12 games during his three-year stint in Baton Rouge. The Red Raiders are in need of playmakers all over the defense and he will get more opportunity than he did for the Tigers defense. Monroe recorded 22 total tackles with one tackle for loss and two passes defended.

The Red Raiders desperately need an upgrade on the defensive side of the ball and the hope is that Monroe can help fill a void. Douglas Coleman III was the top defender with eight interceptions in 2019, he signed with Denver as an undrafted free agent.

Monroe will bring leadership to the team. After being part of a historic run with the LSU Tigers that ended with a National Championship, he can help bring Tech out of the current 10-year funk. Since the firing of Mike Leach nothing has been the same in Lubbock. Monroe could be an important first step in trying to stop the bleeding.
