Draft Wire’s Profile by Jacob Infante:
A massive wideout with plus physicality, length and ball skills, Johnson isn’t going to burn anyone deep as a vertical threat or a playmaker after the catch. What he is, though, is a player who can excel in tight windows and consistently win 50/50-ball battles, and he does that well enough that he should warrant plenty of looks on Day 2.
The Draft Network’s analysts on Johnson:
Collin Johnson projects as a stereotypical X-receiver at the NFL level. He wins in tight spaces, defeats press with hand usage and strength and illustrates a large catch radius to contest errant throws. Johnson’s lack of short area quickness and inability to consistently create separation on his routes will cause some headaches and tempers his upside, he’s more of an ideal depth player and potential red zone target given his looming size. Johnson should stick long-term as a depth player. – Kyle Crabbs
Texas wide receiver Collin Johnson is a tall and spindly target that brings a massive catch radius to the table with some impressive flashes on tape of him adjusting to the football. He is best utilized from the slot, attacking space in zone coverage and working the seam. His hands and ball skills appear sound and a team looking for height at the position should be intrigued by Johnson. With that said, Johnson is fairly limited as a route runner and doesn’t consistently play to his size. He doesn’t project to being able to create consistent separation in the NFL and is likely a WR4 that brings a niche skill set to his offense. – Joe Marino
