What draft analysts are saying about Brandon Jones

Brandon Jones is looking to be the next Texas safety to make an impact in the NFL. Here are what draft analyst have said about him.

Brandon Jones on studying film on all 32 NFL teams via Draft Wire:

I knew I wasn’t gonna be able to physically perform at the combine. I decided to spend my time building up my mental intangibles. I’m really big on trying to improve every aspect of my game whenever I can. Since I had surgery, I looked at it as an opportunity to basically improve my football I.Q. The initial plan was to study every single game from the 2019 season but I wanted to be able to put together a study binder by the combine.

Realistically, I was gonna run out of time if I tried to do every single game. It took me about six or seven hours a day for about eight weeks. I was able to watch four games from every single team. I watched every single defensive rep in those games. Since I narrowed it down to four games, I was able to really dive in deep and learn all of the defenses in the league.

The Draft Network’s analyst on Brandon Jones as a prospect:

Texas safety Brandon Jones was a versatile defender at Texas but he doesn’t project as such in the NFL. His best moments come when he can keep the action in front of him and drive forward. He’s physical, urgent and has impressive moments playing off contact. With that said, he lacks the anticipation skills at this point to function in coverage at the NFL level despite having the necessary physical traits. He misses the mark in man and deep coverage. If he can develop better awareness and processing skills in coverage then he is an NFL starter but as it stands he’s likely a subpackage defender with special teams upside. – Joe Marino

Brandon Jones projects as a potential starter at Strong Safety, but more so as an early down defender who can serve as an asset in run defending and zone coverage inside of 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. Jones’ length, linear burst, physicality and tackling skills are all quality traits and in the right opportunity can yield a starter. Jones’ coverage skills are best in zone and in shallow spaces, wouldn’t consider him a high end option in deep portions of the field. -Kyle Crabbs
