Welcome to Texas-OU, Michigan-Ohio State: A rooting guide

With the Big Ten season postponed who should Michigan and Ohio State fans root for? Well they could find themselves rooting for Texas-OU.

Why does Michigan match up with Texas?

Texas and Michigan don’t have much history between them. The two teams met in the Rose Bowl in the 2004-05 college football season. It was a thriller that saw the Longhorns edge the Wolverines by a point. The two schools have combined for over 1,861 wins in college football history. Two of the three most winningest programs.

Isaiah Hole of Wolverines Wire thinks the best course of action would be for Michigan fans to join up with the Burnt Orange. Not to mention Ohio State fans absolutely despise Longhorns head coach Tom Herman. If the Buckeyes don’t like something you can bet the Wolverines will be on board with it.

Texas is basically the equivalent of Michigan at this juncture.A school that’s historically great and the class of its conference — or at least considers itself to be — with the strongest branding and rich history, but hasn’t lived up to its lofty standards as of late. Living in the shadow of perennial College Football Playoff contender Oklahoma, every year, at the basest, smallest optimistic possibility, fans and media alike ask, every year, if Texas is back? It’s a very similar situation to Michigan, especially as it lives in Ohio State’s shadow.

Also, Austin and Ann Arbor are somewhat kindred cities — liberal bastions with cultures that don’t match the rest of the state, but yet, with a strong fervor for football. And, like Michigan, Texas has a rivalry with a perceived lesser in-state school — though the Longhorns and Aggies rivalry has been on hold since Texas A&M joined the SEC.If there isn’t going to be football in Michigan, fans of the Wolverines very well should galvanize behind the Longhorns.

Besides, Tarik Black, once a fan favorite since he showed out in his first few games wearing a winged helmet, will be wearing No. 0 for Texas this year. If there’s any team in college football that bears a striking resemblance to the maize and blue, it’s Texas in the Big 12.
