WATCH: Ohio State executes a fake punt deep in own territory against Rutgers

Watch as Ohio State running back Steele Chambers takes a direct snap and executes a 38-yard run to put the Buckeyes in prime position.

It may only be a game against Rutgers, but if you let an underdog hand around long enough, the belief can set in, and suddenly, you’ve got a ball game.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day wasn’t having any of that. For those of you old enough to witness a myriad of punting formations from former OSU head coach Jim Tressel, watching Day’s aggressive tendencies has to be a breath of fresh air. Heck, even Urban Meyer has to marvel at how confident and aggressive Day’s play calling is.

It was on display again against the Scarlet Knights. While Ohio State was already up 14-3, it got stopped deep in its own territory early in the second quarter and was staring down the possibility of giving punter Drue Chrisman some air time for once.

But no.

Watch as Day dials up a fake punt and allows running back Steele Chambers to take the snap and ramble 38-yards for an easy first down in Rutgers territory.

If you’re Rutgers, you have to be shaking your head in disbelief. It’s bad enough you have to try and hang with a team as talented as Ohio State. For the Buckeyes to pull this off has to be disheartening.
