WATCH: Kyle McCord gets his first career college touchdown pass for Ohio State

Kyle McCord registers his first career college touchdown pass against Akron! #GoBucks

It’s extremely early in the game between Ohio State and Oregon, but we can already report that freshman quarterback Kyle McCord registered his first official college touchdown pass in a Buckeye uniform. And it came in a rather vanilla flavor, but it still counts.

With Ohio State on the five-yard line of Akron, McCord took the snap and executed a “pop-pass,” the same type of play made famous when J.T. Barrett was breaking records in Columbus, and it went to Chris Olave. The senior wide receiver then ran around the right side and into the end zone untouched for a touchdown that tied the game at seven points apiece.

It wasn’t exactly eye candy, but it goes into the books as a touchdown pass and will hopefully get McCord going. He has looked a bit tentative and nervous early.

Hopefully, this is the first of many for the 5-star quarterback out of Philadelphia. Maybe, it’s one of a few in this game. We can hope, right?
