Urban Meyer reunites with former Ohio State running back

Former Ohio State head coach and current Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has reunited with former Buckeye RB Carlos Hyde.

It has been reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed former Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde. The move will reunite Hyde with his former head coach at Ohio State, Urban Meyer.

Hyde has signed a two-year deal worth six million to play in the Sunshine State according to Ian Rapoport. He’s has been somewhat of a journeyman during his seven-year career suiting up for San Francisco, Cleveland, Houston, Seattle, and an eight-game stint with Jacksonville in 2018.

Hyde’s best season came in 2019 when he was in Houston, where he ran for 1,070 yards and six touchdowns on a 4.4 yards per carry average. He’ll be fighting to back up starting running back James Robinson who is coming off a solid rookie campaign.

Hyde still has some gas in the tank. The former Buckeye did a nice job filling in for an injury-riddled Seahawk backfield last season.

It will be interesting to see how much loyalty Meyer has to former players. My guess is everyone will be on an even playing field and no one will get special treatment. If special treatment is given, I imagine Meyer won’t be on the sideline for long.

Here’s to hoping that Hyde will have a positive impact on a team that needed some veteran leadership last year in a 1-15 season.
