Two Texas players appear on 2021 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot

Two former Longhorns were listed on the 2021 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot.

The 2021 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot was released on Tuesday.

The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame announced two former Longhorns on the list. The official ceremony to induct the newest class will be held on on Dec. 7, 2021 in New York.

To be considered for the ballot is no easy task. The criteria states that a player must have received First-Team All-America honors during their collegiate career.

Defensive tackle Kenneth Sims and offensive lineman Dan Neil were the two latest Texas players to receive this distinguished honor.

Kenneth Sims, Defensive Tackle

“Two-time First Team All-American (1980-consensus, 1981-unanimous) and recipient of the 1981 Lombardi Award…Finished eighth in 1981 Heisman Trophy voting and led Longhorns to four bowl berths…Two-time First Team All-SWC performer who ranks fourth in school history with 29 career sacks.”

Dan Neil, Offensive Lineman

“Two-time First Team All-American, earning consensus honors as a senior…Helped Horns offense rank 11th nationally in total offense (451.8 ypg) and 12th in scoring offense (34.4 ppg) in 1996…Two-time All-Conference selection who set the UT record for consecutive starts.”

Games are often won or lost in the trenches, it’s great to see the big guys be awarded for their elite play.
