With the 2022 NFL draft not even being in the second round yet, in typical sporting fashion there are preparations for next year’s draft class already.
Texas is expected to have a relatively down year in terms of players being drafted in this year’s NFL draft. Cornerback Josh Thompson and kicker Cameron Dicker are both viewed as having a slim chance of hearing their name called on Day 3.
However, in 2023 the Longhorns are expected to have much better representation in the draft as there are multiple players across the board that are viewed as some of the top prospects early on. In Bleacher Report’s top future NFL prospects to watch this fall, Texas had two players featured as being in contention for an early pick in the draft.
The first player mentioned was superstar running back Bijan Robinson, who is widely considered to be selected in the first round even with the value of running backs not being as high as it once was. Here is what they said about Robinson:
Running backs generally slide out of the first round, but Texas star Bijan Robinson will probably be an outlier. Explosive and versatile, he collected 1,422 yards from scrimmage with 26 receptions in his first season as the Longhorns’ lead back.
The second Longhorn mentioned came by way of the transfer portal, as Alabama transfer and tight end Jahleel Billingsley is also someone viewed as having NFL potential for Texas.
There will likely be other players in burnt orange that make a name for themselves in terms of NFL attention, as linebacker DeMarvion Overhsown was viewed as someone with first round potential last season, wide receiver Isaiah Neyor may burst onto the scene, and Jordan Whittington is looking to finish his career on a high note.
It ultimately all depends on how well they do this season, but Texas may go from having zero people drafted to five or even six next season.
