Two Buckeyes take advantage of new NIL rules with signing engagement

Two Ohio State football players will be putting the new name, image, and likeness rule to the test next weekend in a paid signing event.

By now you have most definitely heard about the new name, image, and likeness rules that hit the NCAA on July 1st. But in case you haven’t, let me provide a brief breakdown. Players are now given the right to earn a dollar due to their athleticism and namesake.

The first wave of players cashing in were primarily endorsements with smaller nutrition or clothing companies, but next weekend on July 17, we are going to see the first active Buckeyes appear at an autograph signing and legally charge guests.

The first Ohio State players to host an autograph signing are wide receiver Julian Fleming, and cornerback Sevyn Banks. Both players will be charging $25 per autograph and the signing will take place at Sports Possessions at the Tuttle Mall in Dublin, Ohio. It will be interesting to see how this turns out and how many will flock to the northwest Columbus suburb to get in line.

It’s a brave, new world and we’re figuring this whole thing out together. If this one goes off as a hit, you can bet we’ll see more of them in the future.
