Trent Wilson talks recent Rutgers football visit, previews busy spring visits

Rutgers football hosted Maryland standout defensive lineman Trent Wilson this week.

A recent visit to Rutgers football was a success for Maryland standout Trent Wilson. The class of 2025 recruit is turning into one of the most sought after players from his class in the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast regions.

And for good reason.

Wilson, a defensive lineman from St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, MD), checks in at an impressive 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds. It is hard to believe that he was an underclassman this past fall.

He holds a strong list of Power Five offers including Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Pittsburgh among others.

On Feb. 13, Rutgers football head coach [autotag]Greg Schiano[/autotag] offered Wilson and got him on campus this past week.

“I was excited and glad that they were interested in me,” Wilson told Rutgers Wire about the offer.

“The things that they were saying stood out to me – I can tell they were humble and respected each other.”

Rutgers football is in the midst of a pretty extensive rebuild under Schiano. Wilson said that one part of the message and mentality of the program stuck out from his recent trip to campus.

“One (thing) that stood out to me was, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day.’ I constantly heard the coaches saying that coach Schiano is changing the program by providing resources for the athletes that will make them better athletes,” Wilson said.

“And because coach Schiano knows how to win and develop athletes, soon Rutgers will be a winning team.

“The visit was nice, I met many of the coaches. We talked about how Rutgers will change over the years and the Rutgers tradition.”

The next few weeks will be busy for Wilson with visits taking him all across the country:

  • March 10-12: LSU
  • March 17-19: UCLA and USC
  • March 25: Ohio State
  • March 31-April 2: Tennessee
  • April 8: Penn State
  • April 14-16: Florida State
  • April 21-23: Penn State
  • April 28-30: Maryland, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech

He also hopes to visit Alabama sometime in April.

The late March visit to Ohio State looms large for Wilson. He doesn’t have a Buckeyes offer yet.

“I would be glad to receive a offer from Ohio State,” Wilson said. “Coach Johnson (defensive line coach Larry Johnson) is a great coach and Ohio State has alot of great history.”

“I’m hoping that coach Johnson is interested in me and wants to offer.”
