Three things we learned from Texas’ loss to Iowa State

Texas suffered a season-ending loss to Iowa State on Black Friday. Here are three things we learned from the disappointing performance.

Tom Herman ain’t it

We are in year four of the Tom Herman era and the program has regressed instead of progressed. After the 2018 Big 12 championship appearance and Sugar Bowl victory, Texas was supposed to take a step forward and win the conference.

Instead, Herman has followed that up with a 7-5 2019 season and currently sits at a 5-3 record with home losses to Iowa State and TCU. That is not acceptable when you are the head coach at the University of Texas. Herman said the goal was nothing less than winning a Big 12 championship and he has underdelivered.

It is also the way he coaches games and the crunch time decisions he makes in them. Today’s fourth quarter was the icing on the cake, not scoring a point in the final 22:50 of the ball game. Herman has had plenty of opportunities to prove otherwise.

Friday was the final straw.
