Burke is one of the two players (the other being Thorir Thorbjarnarson) Hoiberg retained from last year’s squad during his overhaul of the roster, though he was sitting out the season due to NCAA rules after transferring to Nebraska from Robert Morris to play for former coach Tim Miles.

The junior guard was a big-time performer for the Colonials during his two seasons suiting up for the NEC program, earning second-team all-conference honors in 2017-18 after stuffing the stat sheet with averages of 17.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game. A lockdown defender, Burke led the NEC in steals, defensive win shares and defensive rating that year.

Burke has been solid offensively for the Cornhuskers so far this season as their third scorer, but his primary contributions to the team’s success come on the defensive end. He’s leading the team in both steals and blocks, ranking third in the Big Ten in the former category.
