The Philadelphia Flyers picked the absolute worst time for this donation deal

The most unfortunate timing possible.

To say the Philadelphia Flyers have been porous at goaltending over the last month would be… an understatement. In the month of March alone, the Flyers lost games by scores of 9-0, 8-3, and 6-1 (twice!), most notably helping the Buffalo Sabres break their historic 18-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 6-1 loss.

The team’s goaltending duo of Carter Hart and Brian Elliott have seen better days, as their combined save percentage of .875 is the NHL’s worst this season by a fair margin. In March alone, Flyers goaltenders saved just .831 percent of shots taken against them, an astoundingly terrible number.

Which makes the team’s choice of a donation deal with Walmart for April a questionable one at best.

That is certainly… a thing! To be fair to the Flyers, this deal with Walmart — to donate 100 meals to families in need for every save made in April — was likely made well in advance of the team’s goaltending troubles. And it’s a great cause to donate to as well.

However, hockey fans couldn’t help but notice the unfortunate situation the team has put themselves in on social media.

Sometimes you win, and sometimes you just gotta take those unfortunate, ill-timed losses.
