Texas WR Xavier Worthy runs fastest ever 40-yard dash at NFL combine

Xavier Worthy passed John Ross as the fastest 40-yard dash in modern era of NFL combine.

Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy made history on Saturday. He passed wide receiver and former No. 9 overall pick John Ross with the fastest official 40-yard dash at 4.21 seconds.

We knew the former California native could glide. The high school track star was one of the faster players in college football in his three years at Texas. Nevertheless, we didn’t know he was all-time fast, and he proved to be that on the field for the 40-yard run.

What it means for Worthy is still to be seen. The elusive pass catcher has the ability to burn defenses like Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. And if the 40-time holds, it could be enough to raise his draft stock like Ross’ sprint did in 2017.

Texas has up to five players who could be drafted in the first three rounds, and Worthy is one of them. Perhaps the fastest receiver in the draft class could be drafted much earlier than expected.
