Texas dropped 10 spots in USA TODAY Sports’ re-rank of every college football team this week.
The Longhorns had a chance to skyrocket in the rankings if they were able to defeat Oklahoma State in Week 7. However, they were unable to close out a double-digit lead for the second consecutive game.
Steve Sarkisian’s team no longer controls their own destiny to the Big 12 championship. At best, they can win the remaining five games on their schedule and hope that one of the two Oklahoma programs lose a few games.
Texas has a lot to reflect on throughout their bye week, including the coaching staff and their personnel decisions. At times, the Longhorns look like one of the best teams in the country. They just can’t seem to find consistency in their play.
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Baylor are listed ahead of Texas this week. Iowa State and Kansas State aren’t far behind.
