Texas’ summer enrollees get their jersey numbers

The Longhorns now have 13 new players going into fall camp. Here are the new jersey numbers for Texas’ summer enrollees.

Offense

Tarik Black – No. 0

The transfer from Michigan will be the first player for Texas to ever wear No. 0. This is the first season the NCAA will allow football players to wear the number. In Ann Arbor, Black wore No. 7, but starting safety Caden Sterns occupies it for the Longhorns.

Ja’Quinden Jackson – No. 3

One of two quarterbacks in the 2020 recruiting class, Ja’Quinden Jackson will have a different freshman season than most. The four-star prospect partially tore his ACL in late December in Duncanville High School’s 6A-DI semifinal game. The dual-threat quarterback will compete for a third-string position this season and possibly the starting role in 2021.

Bijan Robinson – No. 5

A lot of hype is surrounding the five-star running back, even entering his true freshman season. Throughout his high school career, Robinson had 7,036 rushing yards and 114 touchdowns, most ever in the state of Arizona. Robinson will keep the same number he wore as the best high school running back in Arizona history, No. 5.

Andrej Karic – No. 69

A four-star offensive tackle, Andrej Karic will provide depth on the Longhorns offensive line this season. Coming from Texas high school football powerhouse Southlake Carrol, Karic has competed against the best competition in the state his entire life. 247Sports ranked Karic as a top 25 in-state player, hopefully becoming a starter down the line.

Jaylen Garth – No. 77

Another offensive tackle, Jaylen Garth was also a four-star prospect coming out of Port Neches, Texas. Herb Hand will have an athletic lineman on his hand, as Garth has the ability to keep up with speedy edge rushers. Another player for the future, Garth will be a starter in a couple of years.

Kelvontay Dixon – No. 86

Kelvontay Dixon was classified as an athlete by 247Sports in high school, playing Z and Y receiver, while also lining up as a running back. Listed at 6-0 and 180 pounds, Dixon has the size to play in the slot for Tom Herman. Based off the picking up No. 86, Dixon will be exactly that during his Texas career.

Dajon Harrison – No. 88

Another freshman wide receiver, Dajon Harrison will also be lining up in the slot for Mike Yurcich. Harrison was a three-star prospect but brings a ton of value with his speed. A track star, Harrison ran the 100 meters, 4×100 relay, 4×200 relay in high school. Not an immediate starter, Harrison will sit behind Jake Smith and Jordan Whittington in 2020.
