Texas OC Mike Yurcich on what it will take to win the Big 12

Texas offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich joined SiriusXM to share his thoughts on what Texas needs to do to win the Big 12.

If you’re a Texas fan, this interview should get you fired up.

Head coach Tom Herman reshaped his coaching staff this offseason, primarily hiring new offensive and defensive coordinators. While it hasn’t been a traditional spring of preparation, Texas offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich appears confident in what it will take to win the Big 12 this season.

Yurcich recently joined SiriusXM radio to discuss what Texas has to do in order to compete with the best. It’s clear he wants his offense to be explosive, uptempo and be effective running the ball. On top of that, he wants to put up over 40 points a game.

He will find a way to put the best players on the field against the most favorable matchups possible. Yurcich isn’t scared to move his most talented players around to make this happen, assuring that his system will be adaptable.

Although Yurcich stresses flexibility and adaptation, he wants Texas to have an identity. The Longhorns have to be experts in certain core concepts that the players know it like the back of their hand.

“It’s learning and it’s repetition. So again it falls on our plates as coaches to make sure our guys get the amount of repetitions that they need to master their skill, to master their technique, to master our concepts, so that we can play ultra fast – faster than the defense can play their defense at the end of the day.”

Yurcich appears hungry to get after it. That type of energy is what Texas has been lacking for the last several seasons.
