Early on in this game, the Texas Longhorns offense struggled to get going. In the first quarter the offense tried to get the running game going. They would trail the Baylor Bears 3-0 after the first quarter. The Longhorns would respond in the second quarter with 13 points. The offense starting rolling when quarterback started throwing the ball down field.
Ehlinger found Joshua Moore, Tarik Black and tight end Jared Wiley down the field for big plays that set up scores. The Longhorns were able to build a 27-3 lead heading into the final quarter of play in the 110th meeting between these two teams. However, Baylor would make a run scoring on back to back drives to get within 11 points. The second touchdown set up by an Ehlinger interception.
On the ensuing drive as the fourth quarter was closing, the Longhorns wanted to eat some clock to remove any hope of a comeback. Attempting to get another first down to extend the drive, the Longhorns did what they do best and cost themselves. Center Derek Kerstetter gets called for a personal foul after the play to force a punt.
In the closing minutes of the game, the Bears faced a fourth down and two with the game on the line. A false start forcing the Bears into a fourth and seven with the game on the line for them. As Charlie Brewer attempted to find R.J. Sneed, Chris Brown broke up the pass to get the ball back for Texas.
Facing a fourth and short, Ehlinger finds his roommate Cade Brewer to get a first down to seal the victory. The Longhorns were able to kneel out the clock and get the victory 27-16. The win snapped the two-game losing streak for the Longhorns to improve to 3-2, Baylor fell to 1-2.
The big stories in this game were the defense playing much improved in this game than they have been in recent weeks. Ehlinger was efficient as a passer and was the leading rusher for most of the game. His ability to find the deep ball once again, a major factor in the Longhorns getting off the snide. Tom Herman improved to 15-6 at home as the head coach of the Longhorns.
