Texas listed among teams with the most pressure to win this season

247Sports recently listed the top 10 college football teams under the most pressure to win this season.

Texas football and pressure go hand in hand.

It’s just part of the territory. It’s a school that others love to hate, but also a program that holds itself to high expectations. However, when you have a roster that’s loaded with talent and fail to produce quality results, pressure seemingly increases. It’s almost as if the Longhorns are the college version of the Dallas Cowboys.

It’s not far fetched to say that Tom Herman has his back against the wall this season. Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte has made it increasingly clear that Herman has only one chance to reshape his coaching staff. Now, he must compete for championships.

Will Texas find some type of consistency? 247Sports recently listed their top 10 teams with the most pressure to win in 2020 and two Big 12 programs cracked the list.

  • Oklahoma State Cowboys
  • Miami Hurricanes
  • UCLA Bruins
  • Virginia Tech Hokies
  • North Carolina Tar Heels
  • USC Trojans
  • Texas A&M Aggies
  • South Carolina Gamecocks
  • Texas Longhorns
  • Nebraska Huskers

247Sports admitted that the Longhorns may have been overhyped prior to the 2019 season. Since the 2018 Sugar Bowl, they’ve felt like Texas would finally put it together in 2020.

“If Texas does not take a major step forward this year, the questions about whether it ever will will grow louder. Can Herman’s Horns become consistent? Can they bring it every week and not just in the games they perceive as big-time?”

Texas’ schedule is quite favorable this season compared to previous years. Oklahoma is a question mark after losing quarterback Jalen Hurts, there’s two road games to Kansas, and a weakened non-conference LSU team.

If they’re unable to compete for the Big 12 Championship at minimum, the Longhorns football program could likely be headed down a new path.
