Texas is primed to reload in the transfer portal for 2024

Without winning, Texas attracts talent. Now, it can recruit portal players as a playoff team.

Texas has no problem attracting talent through recruiting without winning at an elite level. Now that the team is in the College Football Playoff, a new door for talent acquisition has opened. Texas is in position to improve through the transfer portal.

Recruits can be won over by selling a program’s potential. Texas faithful have seen that time and time again with impressive recruiting classes. Portal transfers are more difficult to persuade without seeing an elite product. The  Longhorns now have that with a Big 12 title, a 12-1 record and a playoff berth.

Early returns have the Longhorns in good position to reel in program-elevating players Clemson defensive back Andrew Mukuba and UTSA edge Trey Moore. The team is also making an effort to bring in Texas A&M defensive tackle Walter Nolen and L.T. Overton.

None of the above players are locks to head to Austin, but you have to like the Longhorns’ chances to win elite talent in this early transfer portal window for 2024. Texas is primed for another impressive portal haul, and the on-field product could be the primary reason.
