Texas football roster breakdown: X-Receiver

Brennan Eagles is expected to be the starter after contributing last season. Here is a breakdown of the X-receiver position for UT in 2020:

X-Receiver 3 – Malcolm Epps

Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

Although he is expected to move into a wide receiver / tight end hybrid role, Malcolm Epps could be an emergency plan at the X-receiver position. Listed at 6-6 and 245 pounds, Epps has similar measurements as Collin Johnson.

Epps has caught 21 passes for 250 yards during his two seasons on campus, yet to make a huge impact. As a recruit, he was classified as a tight end by 247Sports but Tom Herman and Tim Beck lined him up as a wide receiver.

Like Eagles, he also saw playing time as the X-receiver when Collin Johnson went down injured. Now switching back to tight end, Epps will be used back at wide receiver in case of injuries to players ahead of him.
