Texas DB Anthony Cook deletes tweet about not playing, players react

Confusion continues to increase as Texas defensive back Anthony Cook deletes his tweet about not playing another snap.

Thursday was an eventful day for the Texas secondary.

Hours after it was announced that starting safety B.J. Foster suffered a broken hand after punching his car bumper, cornerback Anthony Cook unexpectedly stated on Twitter that he would not play another snap for the University of Texas.

Cook appeared in 25 games over his first two seasons on the Forty Acres. He was widely projected to compete for a starting job in 2020 under defensive coordinator Chris Ash’s new scheme, where he would play a mixture of slot corner and standard nickel defensive back.

Shortly after the news began circulating across major outlets, Cook seemingly deleted the tweet. It’s tough to say what this could mean considering no one knew why Cook tweeted it in the first place. Could he be looking to enter the transfer portal? Could it be related to the social injustice issues going on in the country? Could he have been disciplined for a wrongdoing? Does he just not want to play football anymore? The questions are endless.

A few of Cook’s close teammates attempted to de-escalate the situation.

While this current predicament will present ongoing confusion, Texas is in great hands regardless. Players such as Chris Adimora, Josh Thompson and Kenyatta Watson can confidently pick up the slack if Cook were to not return.
