Texas Basketball: Longhorns sweep the Kansas Jayhawks

In a much closer game than the first matchup, Texas wins in overtime to beat Kansas for the second time this season.

The first matchup was an absolute beatdown as then-No. 8 Texas beat then-No. 3 Kansas 84-59 in Lawrence, Kansas. Not only do teams not usually beat Kansas, it’s extremely hard to do it when the Jayhawks are at home.

The Longhorns looked to make it a season sweep on Tuesday night in what has been a let down season by Kansas standards and a frustrating, up-and-down season for the Longhorns.

In response to Texas’ 19-point meltdown and loss to West Virginia, the Longhorns decided to make the Kansas matchup a nail-biter before forcing overtime.

Texas climbed back by going on a 22-11 run to tie the game in regulation. Once the game was tied up, it became much less offensive oriented as both teams started to pressure ball handlers with aggressive defense, but the Longhorns ultimately had just enough to power through.

The difference turned out to be Jalen Wilson, who had a wide open layup to tie the game with 6 seconds left in the first overtime period, but lost control of the ball on the way to the hoop and gave Texas possession. After that, a series of back-and-forth free throws resulted in a Texas win 75-72.

Texas faces No. 18 ranked Texas Tech in another Big 12 revenge game on Saturday.
