No. 4 – Texas softball beating No. 1 UCLA and No. 2 Washington back to back
Texas headed out west to California where they were scheduled to play five games in four days. The first two games on the schedule were the hardest, playing against No. 1 UCLA in Los Angeles and No. 2 Washington in Fullerton.
Against the Bruins, Texas pulled out an extra innings 6-4 win. The Longhorns had three home runs from three different players, with power guiding towards the win. Senior pitcher Miranda Elish pitched a complete game, only allowing three runs on four hits and six walks.
The next day against Washington, Texas quickly went up 5-0, giving Longhorn pitchers plenty of breathing room. While they did allow six runs throughout the game, Texas was able to add two more runs via a Lauren Burke two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Over the space of two days, Texas softball beat the No. 1 and No. 2 team in the country, the first time the program has ever achieved that feat. Before ending the season, the Longhorns were ranked No. 1 in the country and 24-3.
