Texas Athletics: Top 10 Moments of 2020

Sports being canceled does not take away from the great moments already in 2020. Here are the top 10 moments of 2020 for the Longhorns:

No. 7 – Andrew Jones career-high 22 points against West Virginia and Texas Tech

It has been a long battle back to basketball for Andrew Jones and the redshirt sophomore guard was finally reaching his full potential down the stretch of the season. Averaging 11.5 points before the 2019-2020 season was canceled, Jones set his career-high of 22 points against West Virginia and then matched it the next game against Texas Tech.

Against the Mountaineers, Jones caught fire from behind the three-point line, going 5-9. Three points came from the free-throw line, while he only put up four two-point shots, making two. To add to his scoring, Jones had three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The player of the game against West Virginia, Texas got a much-needed home win in the Big 12.

The following game against the Red Raiders was a big one for Texas, as they needed a win to stay alive in the NCAA Tournament race. Jones once again went off, scoring 22 points. This time, he was more efficient from inside the arc, going 5-8. Jones still drilled a few three-pointers, going 3-8 from behind the arc.

Jones played so well over the two games, he won Big 12 Player of the Week honors.

Finishing the year out with nine points against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, Jones will return as a key member of the 2020-2021 team for Shaka Smart. With still room to grow after beating leukemia, the former McDonald’s All-American can become something special for Texas.
