Texas A&M sophomore TE Donovan Green named to the Mackey Award preseason watchlist

Sophomore Donovan Green was named to the Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, which recognizes the most outstanding tight end in college football.

As Texas A&M prepares for a pivotal 2023 college football season, they’ll rely on a bevy of talented players ready to take a leap in year two with the program. The icing on the cake would be for them to add some hardware along the way.

On Friday afternoon it was revealed that sophomore tight end Donovan Green had been to the Mackey Award Preseason Watch List for 2023, as announced by Friends of John Mackey. The award is given annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football.

Green entered as a four-star prospect in Texas A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class and quickly flashed his upside in 10 games last season while logging starts in four of those contests. He caught 22 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns, with an average of 10.6 yards per reception.

Following a promising freshman campaign, Green was named to the College Football News Freshman All-America Honorable Mention Team. He has an excellent opportunity ahead of him this season to add some individual hardware, with the Mackey Award being given to the tight end who best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics, and community values of Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey.

Green is the latest Aggie to be added to a preseason watchlist for individual hardware, joining McKinnley Jackson, Nik Constantinou, Max Wright, and Bryce Foster. With fall training camp underway in Aggieland, Texas A&M will begin the 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Kyle Field against New Mexico with kickoff set for 6 p.m CT.
