Texas A&M TE Donovan Green announces his return for the Aggies’ 2024 season

Through Texas A&M’s official NIL sponsor, Texas Aggies United sophomore tight end Donovan Green announced his return for the 2024 season.

The NIL era is here to stay, maybe not in its current format, but here to stay nonetheless. For Texas A&M, the program’s official NIL sponsor, Texas Aggies United, has partnered with current members of the Aggies roster to announce every player’s impending return, this time focusing on sophomore tight end Donovan Green.

After suffering a devastating ACL injury just a month before the start of the 2023 season, Donovan Green, who quickly became a favorite target for Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman towards the latter half of the 2022 campaign, would miss the entire year while focusing on his rehabilitation.

In nine games during the 2022 season, Green recorded 22 receptions, 233 yards, and two touchdowns, displaying the strength and blocking ability needed at the position, while his speed and route-running skills stuck out more than any trait, something the Aggies sorely missed in 2023.

In the age of NIL and the ever-growing transfer portal, Green has shown his commitment to the program through and through, as many of us who covered the games last season continuously noticed his presence on the sidelines with the team, itching to get back on the field. During a recent interview, Green expressed his excitement to work under new head coach Mike Elko:

“(Mike Elko) has shown things in the past couple weeks or month that he has been here that I have not seen in a long time.”

Coupled with new OC Collin Klein’s heavy use of tight end sets in his offense, look for Donovan Green to have a bounce-back season in 2024.

Final injury report ahead to Texas A&M vs. New Mexico

Here is the final injury report ahead of Texas A&M’s 2023 season opener vs. New Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 2

Texas A&M (0-0) is set to kick off their 2023 football season against the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday, Sept. 2, inside what should be a packed and raucous Kyle Field.

On Monday, head coach Jimbo Fisher took the podium to answer many questions regarding the team’s preparation before the weekend’s festivities while providing a brief update on the Aggies injury front post-fall camp.

During fall camp, sophomore tight end Donovan Green suffered a torn ACL and will miss the entirety of the 2023 season. Still, he has already undergone a successful surgery and is on track to be ready for the 2024 season. Still, outside of Green’s terrible misfortune, Texas A&M’s roster is in the best shape it’s been at this time of the season for the first time in several years.

As I stated on Monday, we will not know the official status of starting center Bryce Foster until an hour or two before game time, as the Aggies game day depth chart will likely not be released until then, a normality during Fisher’s tenure.

Staying in a similar lane, starting right tackle Reuben Fatheree II will likely miss the opener as he works his way back from a minor injury suffered in the spring, as standout freshman offensive lineman Chase Bisontis is slated to start in his place, while left tackle Trey Zuhn is as healthy as he’s ever been in his Aggie career heading into the opener.

For Head Coach Danny Gonzalez’s Lobo squad, redshirt sophomore tight end Trace Bruckler is back from his injury-riddled 2022 season and is poised for a productive year.

Initial injury report ahead of Texas A&M vs. New Mexico

Here is the initial injury ahead of Texas A&M’s 2023 season opener vs. New Mexico on Saturday, September 2

Texas A&M (0-0) is set to kick off their 2023 football season against the New Mexico Lobos on Saturday, Sept. 2, inside what should be a packed and raucous Kyle Field.

On Monday, head coach Jimbo Fisher took the podium to answer a plethora of questions regarding the team’s preparation before the weekend’s festivities while providing a brief update on the Aggies injury front post-fall camp. As many of you already know, sophomore tight end Donovan Green suffered a torn ACL and will miss the entirety of the 2023 season. Still, outside of Green’s terrible misfortune, Texas A&M’s roster is in the best shape it’s been at this time of the season for the first time in several years.

However, as the week winds down, the offensive line, specifically starting center Bryce Foster’s game status, is something to look out for after Fisher’s recent update.

“He was practicing and playing last week. We’ll see how he does and practices this week. He’ll give us a lot of different options if he’s ready to go.”

Foster’s dual-athlete status as a standout Track and Field star kept him out of spring football season before returning for fall camp. While no specific injury currently hampers him, Fisher’s precautious nature is not surprising due to Foster’s vital importance within the Aggies’ offense.

Keeping with the O-line, Fisher also announced that left tackle Trey Zuhn, who battled the injury bug throughout the 2022 season, is back to full health and is set to return to his blindside blocking duties, while standout freshman tackle Chase Bisontis will also see action, most likely at right tackle due to starting RT Reuben Fatheree’s mild knee injury suffered this spring, as he’ll attempt to work his way back into the lineup, with a probable return date coming on the road against Miami on Sept. 9.

Despite Donovan Green’s season ending injury, Texas A&M’s tight end room is in relatively good shape

Texas A&M’s tight end Donovan Green’s season ending injury means that Texas A&M’s deep TE room has bee thrust into the spotlight

On Sunday night, news broke that ascending Texas A&M tight end Donovan Green, who was set to enter his sophomore season, reportedly tore his ACL during the Aggies’ Saturday afternoon scrimmage, which Head Coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed on Monday.

Standing at an impressive 6-4 and 245 pounds, Donovan Green led all tight ends last season with 22 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns while appearing in 10 games with four starts.

Overall, Green is the complete package at the position due to his blocking ability in tandem with route running and impressive downfield speed. Still, everything we expected to see from the rising star this season will now have to wait until 2024, and if it weren’t for the Aggies’ impressive depth at the position, things would look much worse with less than three weeks before the Sept. 2 season opener.

So, who will lead the way in Green’s absence? To start, the bench is deep, yet senior tight end Max Wright, who is entering his 6th season with the program after switching positions from defensive end, has only 13 catches for 194 yards and two touchdowns in 40 career games.

As a skilled blocker and reliable pass catcher, Wright’s injury history has hindered his consistency in the past two seasons. Still, through a healthy offseason, the hope is that his final season in Aggieland will be his most productive yet.

Second in line, sophomore Jake Johnson, who missed the bulk of last season due to injury, had only one reception for 2 yards. Ranked as the No.3 tight end in A&M’s historic 2022 cycle possesses by far the highest ceiling as a player, standing at an impressive 6-6 and 240 pounds; he has already turned heads with his fluidity and route-running in fall camp. Due to his build and wide receiver-like qualities, I’d expect Fisher and new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino to split him out wide while Max Wright remains the primary inline blocker.

In contrast, sophomores Fernando Garza III and Theo Melin Öhrsrtöm have yet to record a reception and were primarily active in special teams, as Öhrström has reportedly stood out the most this fall according to senior strong safety Demani Richardson:

“He’s getting stronger. He’s already built like Thor. He’s Getting Strong. He’s fast. He’s getting the playbook. He’s learning.”

Lastly, former four-star freshman tight end Jaden Platt might not see the field in large doses this season but has already shown why he was ranked as the No.4 TE prospect in the 2023 cycle after several impressive practices.

All in all, we’ll have to wait to see how things develop this season, but I’ll go ahead and place my trust in tight ends coach James Coley’s ability to get the most out of the talent he has at his disposal. Oh, and expect Donovan Green to be a constant presence in the postion room all season long.

Breaking: Texas A&M tight end Donovan Green will reportedly miss the 2023 season with a torn ACL

It has been reported that Texas A&M tight end Donovan Green will miss the 2023 season due to a torn ACL during Saturday’s scrimmage.

It has been reported by GigEm247 Aggies beat writer Carter Karels that Texas A&M sophomore tight end Donovan Green reportedly tore his ACL (in his knee) during the Aggie’s closed scrimmage on Saturday afternoon, as the news broke late Sunday evening.

Green, who stands at 6-4 and 245 pounds, was set to enter his second full season with the program after recording 22 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns during the 2022 season while appearing in 10 games with four starts. This is obviously a tough break for one of the ascending players on the roster, who has already developed an impressive rapport with assumed starting quarterback Conner Weigman.

Looking ahead, the Aggies are relatively equipped to endure such an injury due to their overwhelming depth at the position, starting with senior Max Wright and ending with sophomore Jake Johnson, redshirt freshman Theo Melin Öhrström, and redshirt sophomore Fernando Garza III.

Donovan Green was ranked as the 5th tight end in the 2022 recruiting class, while Jake Johnson, who was the 3rd-ranked tight end prospect, will now presumably take center stage as the go-to pass catcher at the position outside of what Wright can produce outside of his blocking duties.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Donovan!

Texas A&M sophomore TE Donovan Green named to the Mackey Award preseason watchlist

Sophomore Donovan Green was named to the Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, which recognizes the most outstanding tight end in college football.

As Texas A&M prepares for a pivotal 2023 college football season, they’ll rely on a bevy of talented players ready to take a leap in year two with the program. The icing on the cake would be for them to add some hardware along the way.

On Friday afternoon it was revealed that sophomore tight end Donovan Green had been to the Mackey Award Preseason Watch List for 2023, as announced by Friends of John Mackey. The award is given annually to the most outstanding tight end in college football.

Green entered as a four-star prospect in Texas A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class and quickly flashed his upside in 10 games last season while logging starts in four of those contests. He caught 22 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns, with an average of 10.6 yards per reception.

Following a promising freshman campaign, Green was named to the College Football News Freshman All-America Honorable Mention Team. He has an excellent opportunity ahead of him this season to add some individual hardware, with the Mackey Award being given to the tight end who best exemplifies the play, sportsmanship, academics, and community values of Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end John Mackey.

Green is the latest Aggie to be added to a preseason watchlist for individual hardware, joining McKinnley Jackson, Nik Constantinou, Max Wright, and Bryce Foster. With fall training camp underway in Aggieland, Texas A&M will begin the 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Kyle Field against New Mexico with kickoff set for 6 p.m CT.

Texas A&M TE Donovan Green has partnered with Charlie Hustle Co. on a new Aggie clothing line

Texas A&M Tight end Donovan Green has reportedly partnered with Charlie Hustle Co. for a new Aggies-based clothing line.

Outside of the gridiron, some very cool news regarding Texas A&M Tight end Donovan Green has been announced, as the new incoming sophomore has reportedly partnered with Charlie Hustle, a clothing company based in Kansas City, Missouri, to produce a new line of Aggie gear just in time for the start of the 2023 season.

In the new world of NIL, this is a prime example of combining creativity and love for a University to create something that every fan can take part in, as just like his stellar play on the field, I expect nothing less than greatness from one of the up and coming stars on the Aggies roster.

Heading into the start of Fall practice on August 2, Green finished the 2022 season on a high note with 22 receptions, 233 yards, and two touchdowns in ten games, with a 10.6-yard-per-reception average. Sitting behind graduate senior Max Wright, Green will likely battle fellow sophomores Jake Johnson and Theo Ohrstrom for the No.2 spot, but after developing a repertoire with nearly every quarterback who took snaps last season, his stock is definitely up heading into Fall.

To check out the new gear, visit charliehustle.com, and look for Texas A&M in the College link.

Texas A&M Football 2023 Position Preview: Tight ends; a potential sleeper group

Texas A&M’s tight end group boasts a nice mix of returning veterans alongside promising younger stars, led by Max Wright and Donovan Green.

Texas A&M kicks off the 2023 college football season in just under two months, and while the offseason is nearing its conclusion sooner than later, it’s time to preview what Jimbo Fisher and his staff will be working with from a roster perspective.

This deep-dive will focus on the tight end position group, which boasts a nice mix of returning veterans alongside promising younger stars.

Returning production:  Graduate Max Wright returns to Aggieland following the most productive season of his collegiate career, having logged nine receptions for 129 yards with one touchdown and an average of 14.3 yards per reception. After appearing in just four games across the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Wright appeared in eight contests last season as he looks to build upon his growing presence in the offense in 2023.

Green entered as a four-star prospect in Texas A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class and quickly flashed his upside last season. He caught 22 receptions for 233 yards and two touchdowns, with an average of 10.6 yards per reception. As one of the many true freshmen that were thrust into last year’s “baptism by fire” campaign, Green is equipped to take another step forward after finishing fourth in receiving last season through 10 games played.

Johnson appeared in four games for the Aggies last season and finished with one reception for two yards. Still, given what we’ve heard about Bobby Petrino‘s offensive scheme, he could be among those ready to benefit from added opportunities.

Departures:  After spending three seasons with the Aggies, junior Blake Smith announced his intention to enter the transfer portal in December, and shortly after, in January, he committed to Oklahoma. Smith appeared in six games during his time with Texas A&M, serving primarily as a blocking tight end and having recorded two catches for one yard.

Final Observation:  Much conversation has been made about how Petrino’s track record as a quarterback guru will help Conner Weigman take a leap this season. Additionally, their talented trio at the wide receiver position highlights the Aggies’ offense. But given what we’ve heard and seen throughout spring football, the tight end unit could truly be a layer to this offense that helps unlock its true potential.

Wright mentioned the appreciation for the different formations and personnel groupings that the tight end is a part of, from mismatches in terms of blocking schemes to utilizing two tight ends on the ball while also having a tight end in the backfield and at the fullback spot. Garza was the group’s highlight during the Maroon and White game, finishing with four catches for 51 yards and an impressive red zone touchdown grab.

In totality, the Aggies have a unique tight end group filled with experience and upside, which gives them another advantage to throw at opposing defenses this season.

Texas A&M’s Donovan Green not included among College Sports Wire’s Top 13 Tight ends

Texas A&M sophomore tight end Donovan Green, who is slowly becoming a star at the position, was recently excluded from College Sports Wire’s Tight end power rankings.

The 2023 college football offseason is in full swing as the summer begins, meaning preseason rankings, especially those focused on position groups, dominate the media landscape as fans gauge their team’s strengths and weaknesses.

For Texas A&M, head coach Jimbo Fisher’s desperate attempt to put the program’s disappointing 5-7 2022 season in the rearview mirror, immediate and consistent success on the gridiron is the only way forward, and to rebound and reach any of their numerous lofty goals in 2023, the offense, led by newly minted offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino, and blue-chip sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman present a coach-player dynamic that may make for break the Aggies when it’s all said and done.

Outside of A&M’s prolific wide receiver rotation made up of Ainias Smith, Evan Stewart, Moose Muhammad II, and Noah Thomas, the tight end room is deep with both raw talent and veteran experience; sophomore TE Donovan Green stands out the most after appearing in nine out of twelve games last season.

This week, College Sports Wire’s Patrick Conn ranked the Top 13 tight ends ahead of the 2023 campaign. Several ranked players are debatable outside a few established superstars (i.e., Georgia’s Brock Bowers and Syracuse’s Orande Gadson).

Donovan Green, who recorded 22 receptions for 222 yards, two touchdowns, and a 10.6 YPG average, failed to make the list. Green, who stands at 6-4, and nearly 240 pounds, has the rare ability not only to block effectively in run and pass pro but possesses a receiver-like twitchiness and field-stretching ability in the seam; his offensive output would have been higher if it wasn’t for A&M’s quarterback carousel that destroyed any sense form of offensive chemistry.

Time will tell how Dominant Green will be this season, but in a room with tight ends Jake Johnson and Theo Ohlstrom, shared snaps could hinder him statistically. However, his impact, especially his connection with Conner Weigman early on, should put him in contention for one of the rising stars at the position.

Ranking the 15 best players on Texas A&M’s 2023 football roster

As Texas A&M prepares for a critical 2023 college football season, here are the 15 best players on the roster based on both production and future potential.

Texas A&M is headed toward a crucial 2023 football season in the coming months, which means they’ll be relying on a handful of key impactful players on both sides of the ball.

Much conversation has been made about the Aggies’ underwhelming 5-7 2022 campaign (2-6 SEC), but what is often overlooked is the contributions made by more than a handful of true freshmen. For being thrust into the fire on a moment’s notice, Texas A&M flashed its potential on offense and by all means stood its ground on defense, which figures to be a promising unit this coming season.

As Jimbo Fisher has noted recently, the trials of last season will serve as a lesson learned and fuel for the future, which means a number of players could be set for impactful, and even breakout seasons.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some names Texas A&M will be counting on this fall.
