Just before the NFL trade deadline, the Houston Texans traded young pass-rusher Charles Omenihu to the San Francisco 49ers.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news on Tuesday that the 49ers will be sending a future late-round draft pick in exchange for Omenihu.
The former Longhorn has been a popular trade name over the last few weeks. Just hours before the news broke that Omenihu would be traded to the 49ers, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Kansas City Chiefs were also interested in acquiring the promising defensive end from Houston.

The Texans selected Omenihu in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound defensive lineman has recorded 11 tackles, one tackle for loss, and three quarterback hits through six games this season.
After an impressive offseason, Omenihu started the first two games for Houston this year. However, Texans defensive coordinator Lovie Smith stated that practice influenced them to dress Jordan Jenkin rather than Omenihu in Weeks 5-6.
In his three NFL seasons, Omenihu has logged 41 tackles, seven sacks, four passes defended, and two forced fumbles in 35 games.
