Ten Predictions for the 2020 season

The 2020 season is a pivotal season for the Texas program, needing to meet expectations. Here are 10 predictions for the upcoming season.

There will not be a star wide receiver

Last season, the main guy for Sam Ehlinger was Devin Duvernay. With both him and Collin Johnson off to the NFL, wide receiver becomes a question mark on the offense. In 2020, the ball will be more evenly distributed to different receivers. Brennan Eagles, Jake Smith, and Malcolm Epps should all be factors in the passing game next season. Add in possible tight end threats like Cade Brewer and Ehlinger will have plenty to throw at next season.

Joseph Ossai will be the defensive star

The pass rush was an issue for the Longhorns last season, hardly ever getting pressure on the quarterback. Once Todd Orlando was relieved of his duties at the end of the season and somebody new took over for the Alamo Bowl, that changed. The main guy behind it all was Joseph Ossai as he recorded three sacks and 6.5 tackles for losses. With Chris Ash coming in, Ossai will pick up where he left off in the bowl game, racking up sacks in 2020.

Undefeated season at home

Since Tom Herman took over in 2017, the Longhorns have lost at least one home game in each of the seasons. Last season, it came in the non-conference, losing to LSU. This year, some of the best opponents on the schedule come at home for Texas, but they should be able to take care of business at Darryl K Royal-Memorial Stadium. Not playing a Big 12 home game until Oct. 17, the final stretch of the season is in Austin. The Longhorns will be trying to avenge losses to Baylor, Iowa State, and TCU, while also getting West Virginia, USF, and UTEP at home. Sounds like a 6-0 season in Austin.

The rivalry with Texas A&M is restored

The Big 12 and SEC can only keep these two schools apart for so long during bowl season. It seems the only way they can meet up is if they play each other in the Sugar Bowl. That could be a real possibility as both the Longhorns and Aggies are projected to have excellent seasons. Playing on New Year’s Day instead of Thanksgiving would be weird, but anything to meet up with the old rival from College Station.
