Extending guys

What could be the toughest part of Beane’s duties right now might be re-signing his current players. Linebacker Matt Milano and offensive lineman Dion Dawkins are on the top of everyone’s wish list in terms of extensions for Buffalo. Also to consider is Feliciano.

Like everything in life it seems, COVID-19 has complicated this as well. It was reported last week that the salary cap floor might be $175 million next season due to a loss of revenues. Beane said he’s glad that was figured out, but it’s still a waiting game for him. That number could go up if fans are allowed at games, or revenues are just better than expected.

For the Bills, the more cap space, the better. It might be tough to re-sign both of these guys without it. Beane knows that, and knows it’s pretty much a waiting game until the league says different.

“Obviously that throws a wrench in every team’s planning because it’s $198 million this year, and those things have been jumping 10, 12 million every year. Prior to this COVID, our plan, we were planning on that thing being close to 210 or so. Obviously it adjusts what we can and can’t do. But we still want to retain our guys and we’re going to do our best to retain as many as possible. But we do have to keep an eye on what that salary floor currently stands at and until they tell us any different, that’s what we have to operate with,” Beane said.
