Kentucky football picks up a transfer portal quarterback

Kentucky football gets a commitment from quarterback Zach Calazada.

Kentucky football has found its starting quarterback for next year in the transfer portal.

Zach Calzada, a transfer from Incarnate Word, has committed to Wildcat football.

“Let’s work”, posted Calzada to his personal Instagram announcing the move.

Calzada is a redshirt senior and ranked as a three-star transfer portal recruit by On3. He originally committed to Texas A&M as part of the 2018 high school graduating class.

Fans may know Calzada from his time at A&M, where he replaced now-Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket passer Haynes King after an injury in 2021. Calzada led the Aggies to a 41-38 win over then-undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide.

Since, he’s become somewhat of a journeyman college quarterback. This will be his 7th college season, as he’s also spent time with the Auburn Tigers and Incarnate Word — most recently leading the Cardinals to their first ever undefeated season in Southland Conference play.

He’s coming off a great statistical season at Incarnate Word — throwing for 3,791 yards (fifth in FCS), 35 touchdowns (second in FCS), and completing 65% of his passes. In his two years in San Antonio, Calzada accumulated over 6,500 yards of total offense.

Calzada is likely to feature as somewhat of a bridge starting quarterback for the Wildcats, as he is facing his last year of eligibility.

He is likely setting up rising-sophomore Cutter Boley to be Kentucky’s quarterback of the future, who look promising but in need of more developmental time towards the end of last season. Last year’s starting quarterback, Brock Vandagriff, looks unlikely to return but has yet to hit the transfer portal.

Former Texas A&M QB Zach Calzada is headed back to SEC for the 2025 season

The Kentucky Wildcats have landed a commitment from former Texas A&M and Incarnate Word QB Zach Calzada

Texas A&M won’t face Kentucky during the 2025 college football season. Still, a familiar face is headed back to the SEC as quarterback Zach Calzada will transfer to Lexington and compete for the starting QB job with the Wildcats and veteran head coach Mark Stoops.

Calzada’s journey is truly documentary-worthy. The former Texas A&M quarterback has just completed his best collegiate season after two full years at Incarnate Word, where he threw for 3,744 yards, achieved 35 touchdowns, and recorded only nine interceptions this season.

Calzada’s 2021 season with the Aggies was cemented in history after leading Texas A&M to one of the program’s most significant wins over No. 1 ranked Alabama after a 3-2 start to the year. Calzada’s impressive play in the pocket showed his potential as a Power 5 starter.

While his future with the Aggies could have been extended if it wasn’t for Texas A&M’s loaded 2022 quarterback room, Calzada briefly transferred to Auburn before injuries and poor play led him to fix his issues with Incarnate Word.

At 6-4 and 200-plus pounds, Calzada’s arm talent is undeniable and will more than likely lead to earning the starting quarterback job for a Kentucky team in desperate need of a reliable option under center.

QB Zach Calzada is on the move again after two years at Incarnate Word

After two seasons at UIW quarterback Zach Calzada is entering the transfer portal

After an emotional and what seemed to be a goodbye to college football, former Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada has entered the transfer portal for the third time.

When people hear, “He has eligibility left!?” their next question is often, “How?” The quick answer is that he redshirted his freshman year, and due to the 2020 Covid-affected season, his eligibility didn’t run out.

After transferring to Auburn, he got injured, which allowed him to receive a medical redshirt after not playing in the 2022 season.

Now that it is established that he still has another season left, he hopes to gain some traction for the 2026 NFL Draft. So why did he give the speech as if he would no longer be playing football at this level? There was talk throughout the year that a final season at UIW or entering the 2025 NFL Draft were his primary options.

From this writer’s perspective, Calzada likely feels that he has proven enough at Incarnate Word and shown significant growth while staying healthy throughout the year, making him an intriguing option for many teams looking for a veteran signal-caller.

Former Auburn quarterback Zach Calzada enters transfer portal

Will Calzada return to the FBS level after a successful stay at Incarnate Word?

Former Auburn Tiger and Texas A&M Aggie [autotag]Zach Calzada[/autotag] has entered the transfer portal for the third time in his career according to a report by On3’s Pete Nakos. After spending his first two seasons with the Aggies, Calzada transferred to Auburn in 2023, where he did not see the field.

The Buford, Georgia native then took his talents to Incarnate Word, where he passed for 6,342 yards and 54 touchdowns in two years. Calzada led the Cardinals to an 11-3 season in 2024. They would go on to win the Southland Conference before losing to FCS behemoth South Dakota State in the Quarterfinals of the playoffs.

Now 24 years old, the former three-star prospect will look to not only move back to an FBS program but likely a Power 4 program as well to finish out his seven-year collegiate career. While he hasn’t played meaningful FBS football since 2021 with the Aggies, Calzada could turn the momentum he picked up over the last two seasons in the FCS into a starting spot on am FBS roster in 2025.

Formerly ranked as a top-50 quarterback prospect in 2025, the college football veteran is not currently ranked among transfer portal quarterbacks in the 2025 cycle. That could change as the rankings update in the coming days, although he is unlikely to be viewed as an elite prospect in the class.

Former Texas A&M QB Zach Calzada reflects on his college career as it comes to an end

Former Aggie QB Zach Calzada speaks on what his time at UIW meant for him and his playing career

There is a saying at Texas A&M that goes, “Once an Aggie, always an Aggie.” While exceptions exist, this still holds for former Texas A&M Zach Calzada.

He will always be remembered for his valiant effort in the 41-38 win over No. 1 Alabama, in which he went 21-of-31 for 285 yards and three touchdowns. Calzada’s time ended after the season, and he decided to transfer back to his home state of Georgia and committed to Auburn.

Nonetheless, things unfolded differently than he anticipated, and he missed the field in 2023, leading to his second entry into the transfer portal.

In 2023, he landed back in Texas with the Cardinals at Incarnate Word of the Southland Conference. After an average but successful first season, he made a big jump in year two, leading the Cardinals to a 10-2 regular season record. They ended with an overall 11-3 record, ultimately losing to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the FCS Quarterfinals.

It marked the end of an interesting career where he ultimately was able to find a program that fit him best. Below, Calzada reflects on this time at UIW while thanking every coach along the way and expressing what it meant for him as a person.

Former Texas A&M QB Zach Calzada is coming off a career game with Incarnate Word

Former Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada may have an NFL future ahead of him

Former Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada will never have to pay for another drink in College Station after helping the Aggies defeat Alabama during the 2021 season when the Crimson Tide was ranked as the No. 1 team in the country.

During his two seasons at Texas A&M under former head coach Jimbo Fisher, Calzada’s big arm garnered interest from several other blue-blood programs, including the Georgia Bulldogs.

Still, Fisher ultimately won the recruiting battle. After only appearing in several games during his first two seasons, Calzada took over the starting job after current Georgia Tech starting QB Haynes King was injured in a game against Colorado.

After finding his footing, Calzada led the Aggies to a four-game win streak after defeating Alabama. However, the team ultimately lost a road game to Ole Miss, which would have likely vaulted the A&M into the playoff conversation.

Due to the return of Haynes King and then freshman quarterback Conner Weigman, Calzada initially transferred to Auburn for a year before settling with Incarnate Word during the 2023 season, where he has thrived ever since.

Finishing 2023 with 2,598 passing yards and 19 touchdowns, Calzada’s 2024 season is even more impressive after six games, including a career-high 5 passing touchdowns and 270 yards in Saturday’s win over Nicholls.

Calzada’s 6-4 200-plus pound frame, paired with one of the strongest arms in college football, will likely garner scouting attention at the next level.

Former Aggie QB Zach Calzada named as the Southland Football Newcomer of the Year

Once an Aggie always as former Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada earns All-Southland Conference honors

Aggie legend and former signal-caller Zach Calzada is finding success in his new home.

The quarterback position at Texas A&M has been a revolving door for several seasons since the departure of Kellen Mond. Whether it was the over-confidence in Jimbo Fisher’s ability to coach up QBs, bad injury luck or just the sheer level of competition the SEC brings, it seems the string of QBs is just not reaching their full potential.

Calzada, while inconsistent, was a gamer and gave the Aggies one of the better performances from a Texas A&M quarterback against Alabama not named Johnny Manziel. After a brief stint at Auburn, Calzada found his way to the University of Incarnate World in the Southland Conference.

In his first season under head coach Clint Killough and OC/QB coach Conner McQueen, he helped lead the team to a 9-2 record and the top-ranked offense in the conference. Calzada’s consistent play led to him being named the 2023 Southland Football Newcomer of the Year and first-team all-conference. You can see the announcement below.

ZACH CALZADA 2023 STATS:

  • 188 of 283 – 66.4% – 2,598 YARDS – 19 TDs – 9 INTs

Congratulations to Zach Calzada and the success he’s been able to achieve as he nears the end of his college career.

Former Auburn LB finds new home at FCS program

Kameron Brown will continue his football career as a graduate student.

Ahead of the spring transfer portal window opening on Saturday, one former Auburn linebacker has announced the program that he will be playing for next season.

[autotag]Kameron Brown[/autotag], a linebacker that saw limited action in four seasons at Auburn, announced Thursday that he will be transferring to Chattanooga to finish his college career.

Brown declared his intent to transfer away from Auburn last month by announcing that he would be using his remaining eligibility as a graduate student. He signed with Auburn as part of the 2019 recruiting class as a three-star linebacker from Lanier High School in Sugar Hill, Georgia. He is also the brother of former Auburn defensive lineman, [autotag]Derrick Brown[/autotag].

Brown saw limited field time during his four seasons at Auburn. He was used as a reserve linebacker from 2020-22 and played in one game in 2020 against Arkansas. Because he is a graduate transfer, he will be eligible to transfer immediately as he pursues his master of business arts degree.

Brown is the 11th member of the 2022 roster that has entered the transfer portal. Several names that have found new homes include [autotag]Zach Calzada[/autotag] (Incarnate Word), [autotag]Keiondre Jones[/autotag] (Florida State), and [autotag]A.D. Diamond[/autotag] (UAB).

Auburn football loses linebacker to transfer portal

The junior LB will leave as a graduate of Auburn University.

As spring football begins to wind down at Auburn, one linebacker has announced his intention to transfer after he graduates this spring.

[autotag]Kameron Brown[/autotag], a former three-star linebacker from Lanier High School in Buford, Georgia, has announced that he will enter the transfer portal as a graduate student. Brown followed his brother, former Auburn defensive lineman, [autotag]Derrick Brown[/autotag], to Auburn as a member of the 2019 class.

Brown saw limited field time during his four seasons at Auburn. He was used as a reserve linebacker from 2020-22 and played in one game in 2020 against Arkansas. Because he is a graduate transfer, he will be eligible to transfer immediately.

With Brown’s departure, Auburn now has 10 players from last season’s roster to transfer away from the program. Out of those 10 players, seven of them have found new homes including [autotag]Zach Calzada[/autotag] (Incarnate Word), [autotag]Dazlin Worsham[/autotag] (UAB), [autotag]Keiondre Jones[/autotag] (Florida State), and [autotag]Jordon Ingram[/autotag] (Troy).

Former Auburn WR finds new home at in-state school

The Birmingham-area native is moving closer to home after spending one season on the Plains.

After spending one season on the Plains, one former Auburn wide receiver is making a move to be closer to home.

[autotag]Dazalin Worsham[/autotag], who was a part of the 2022 roster after transferring in from Miami, has announced that he will be staying in-state, and will transfer to UAB. Worsham is a native of Trussville, and will now play college football 15 miles away from his hometown.

In his lone season at Auburn, Worsham was used sparingly. He reeled in one catch for eight yards against Arkansas on Oct. 29 and returned a total of four punts for 25 yards. According to Pro Football Focus, Worsham took part in 51 plays during the season and ended the season with a grade of 65.8.

Worsham becomes the fifth Auburn player to find a home since entering the transfer portal, and the second to make the move to UAB. Earlier this month, CB [autotag]A.D. Diamond[/autotag] announced that he would also be playing for the Blazers.

Other players to find homes include [autotag]Zach Calzada[/autotag] (Incarnate Word), [autotag]Trey Lindsey[/autotag] (Albany), and [autotag]Keiondre Jones[/autotag] (Florida State).
