Saints wideouts, WR coach Keith Williams host youth football camp

Most of the Saints wide receivers and their position coach Keith Williams hosted a youth football camp in Nebraska this week:

This is really cool to see. Most of the New Orleans Saints wide receivers corps and their position coach Keith Williams hosted a youth football camp in Nebraska this week, teaching dozens of youngsters the skills they’ll need to succeed in football.

Rashid Shaheed and A.T. Perry were joined by veterans Stanley Morgan and Cedrick Wilson Jr. as well as Mason Tipton, a rookie free agent the team signed from Yale. That’s more than half the room; the only receivers not in attendance were Chris Olave and Equanimeous St. Brown, plus first-year pros Jermaine Jackson and Bub Means (who has been dealing with a minor injury).

It’s good to see the guys getting out there and making memories with the next generation of football players. It’s great that a mix of veteran players, expected starters, and some new to the NFL got together to share this experience. That camaraderie will carry over when they kick off what’s expected to be a competitive training camp next week.

Chiefs DL Charles Omenihuā€™s ACL rehab is progressing slowly in the latest update

Kansas City #Chiefs DL Charles Omenihuā€™s ACL rehab is progressing slowly in the latest update | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs won their second consecutive Super Bowl title last season with contributions from many unsung players. Charles Omenihu was a reliable veteran on the defensive line until suffering a postseason-ending injury.

While at a youth football camp in Houston, Texas, Omenihu spoke with Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, providing an update on his recovery from a torn ACL in the Chiefs’ AFC Championship game victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

“It’s going good,” said Omenihu. “Slow process. Everybody told me it was going to be like that, but it’s been decent.”

The former Texas standout had seven sacks in 2023 after appearing in 11 regular-season games due to an early season suspension. He secured a sack on league MVP Lamar Jackson before leaving the AFC Championship game with the injury.

“Honestly, right now, I’m steady, I’m cool,” said Omenihu. “I got to be like this. I kind of keep myself like that, just stay plain, and we’ll get to the point where I ramp it up like that.”

Once he’s healthy and ready to return to the field, Onenihu will be a welcomed addition to the Chiefs defensive line.

Chiefs G Trey Smith to participate in wing-eating contest at Kelce Jam festival

Kansas City #Chiefs OL Trey Smith will try to eat as many Wingstop wings as possible at Kelce Jam on May 18. | @EdEastonJr

The many activities and performances at this Saturday’s Kelce Jam music festival are curated by Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce, and it’s expected to be bigger than last year for the Kansas City community.

Co-creator Medium Rare mentioned during their interview with Chiefs Wire that there would be some involvement from Kelce’s teammates, and another reveal is it will be a starter on the offensive line.

Wingstop is hosting a must-see wing-eating contest with Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith and is offering an array of surprises, including the chance to mingle with the event curator himself.

As the official wing partner of the Kelce Jam, Wingstop will provide free samples of their hickory smoked barbecue wings to attendees.

Smith will participate in Saturday’s contest, which is just one of the many projects he has lined up for the 2024 offseason. The former Volunteer recently announced that he will visit his hometown of Jackson, Tennessee, to hold a football camp, and the event quickly sold out.

The town will also have a Super Bowl LVIII celebration for Smith on Friday, June 21.

Smith will enter his fourth season with the Chiefs in 2024 and has already become an impactful, respected member of the offensive line. He has started all 50 games he’s been available to play.

Chase Young holds 2nd annual football camp in D.C. over the weekend

With just a few weeks before training camp, Chase Young held his 2nd annual youth football camp in Washington.

As Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young prepares for his fourth NFL season, he held his second annual youth football camp Saturday behind iconic RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post had the following photos from Young’s football camp.

Young started his youth football camp last summer, which was held at the Commanders’ practice bubble.

“I was that kid…just trying to make it to the NFL one day,” Young said last year, per Zach Selby of commanders.com. “I want them to know that they are the next thing coming up. It is possible. You can do it. And a few of these kids might be in the league.”

Young has been in the news this year after the Commanders declined to pick up his fifth-year option for 2024. Now, Young will be a free agent after the upcoming 2023 season, along with fellow defensive end Montez Sweat.Ā

Young’s lack of production over the last two seasons, in combination with the serious knee injury he suffered in 2021, led Washington to decline the option. Head coach Ron Rivera cited Daron Payne’s performance in 2022 as the template he hopes Young follows in 2023, which would presumably lead to a lucrative offer to remain with the Commanders.

The Commanders begin training camp on July 26.

Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco offers advice to late-round draft picks

Speaking at a youth football camp in Columbia, Missouri, #Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco offered up some advice for late-round draft picks.

The offseason community involvement of Kansas City Chiefs players has been one of the many highlights since Super Bowl LVII. Each player has shown various ways of giving back and supporting different causes while celebrating the championship victory.

Chiefsā€™ second-year running back Isiah Pacheco hosted a youth football camp in Columbia, Missouri over the weekend and shared his appreciation for working with kids while speaking with local reporters.

ā€œA blessing to be out here,” Pacheco said. “I can’t imagine where I would have been last year. Now, I look at the point where I’m at today. I’m stoked, but most importantly, I was a kid in these positions to be able to come and support whoever was hosting a camp, and now I’m in a position to (be) the one that is hosting a camp, and I was in their shoes before. So, I know how it feels to get the energy the support to love so Iā€™m gonna give them as much as I can to show them that you know, they could be in the same shoes.ā€

Pacheco has been recovering from off-season surgery after revealing he played in Super Bowl LVI with a broken hand and torn labrum. He’s become a supportive participant during OTAs without being physically active, passing on positive messages to teammates similar to his message during his camp.

Speaking directly to the incoming rookie class, Pacheco shared his experience coming into the league as a late-round draft pick.

“There’s always gonna be ups and downs in the role. (There are) people in the locker room, you know, saying different contracts, you can’t let that affect you of what you got going on your life,ā€ said Pacheco. ā€œFor me, don’t worry about the next man. Worry about yourself. And always remember, there’s gonna be ups and downs, but you got to find ways to get over those and eliminate distractions.ā€

Pacheco should be healthy in time for training camp late next month, but until then, he will continue to provide support to the coaching staff and mentorship to his younger teammates at OTAs.

Jerry Jeudy to host youth football camp in Englewood in June

Jerry Jeudy is set to host a youth football camp in Englewood this summer.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy will have a busy summer. Outside of getting accustomed to his third head coach in four years Sean Payton, Jeudy will launch his inaugural Youth Football ProCamp in June.

The Safeway Jerry Jeudy Football ProCamp will partner with Proctor & Gamble, and the camp dates are set to be June 28-29 at Englewood Highschool in Englewood, Colorado.

Jeudy will host the camp for all skill levels from first through eighth grade. The camp will feature head coaches from the college and prep levels, allowing the coaches to develop the camp attendees.

Hosting a summer camp for youth provides benefits for camp attendees. The youth can benefit from hands-on learning during their time there, and they also benefit from learning from a professional athlete. Plus, Jeudy can make a lasting impression on those attending in June.

Congratulations to Jeudy for launching his first football camp; hopefully, more will come. Learn more about the camp here.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson pays special tribute to Tom Brady at his youth football camp

Watch: C.J. Gardner-Johnson pays special tribute to Tom Brady at his youth football camp

This is just fantastic. Sure, the New Orleans Saints have frustrated Tom Brady at every turn since he went ring-chasing in the NFC South, with their defense sacking, intercepting, taunting, and defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback so often that he briefly went into retirement. And no Saints player has embodied the role of a smirking gadfly so much as C.J. Gardner-Johnson.

Gardner-Johnson kept up the heat on Brady at his recent youth football camp, sending participants through a tackling drill to work on their form — with the tackling dummy wearing Brady’s jersey, of course. It’s an exquisite choice. See for yourself in the video shared by Gardner-Johnson’s manager.

And, hey, what else should Gardner-Johnson do? Brady came to Tampa Bay because he thought that was his easiest path to winning more Super Bowl titles. He got his Mickey Mouse ring in the COVID-plagued 2020 season, with a three-interception Drew Brees meltdown helping him along the way, but he’s otherwise experienced nothing but failure at the hands of the Saints.

Gardner-Johnson and the New Orleans defense have beaten him so badly that he’s been reduced to a swearing, sweating mess. Good on Gardner-Johnson for leaning into it. Now let’s hurry up and get to September so we can see that energy translate to the field — we know he’s good for it.

WATCH: Chiefs’ Tyreek Hill can’t cover high school receiver

Hill had a hard time covering a high school receiver one-on-one at a youth football camp.

Kansas City Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill got a taste of his own medicine while trying to cover a high school athlete at one of his youth football camps.

Over the weekend Hill hosted a youth football camp in Round Rock, Texas in collaboration with Hard Count Athletics. One of the athletes in attendance was East View High School WR Tyreeq-Styles Obichere and he put on a show. According to his Twiter account, he put up the fastest 40-yard dash time at the camp. The most impressive moment, however, was captured on video.

Obichere had a chance to face Hill one-on-one with Hill defending in coverage. The kid went up for a one-handed grab over Hill, showing off his best Randy Moss impression. Check it out:

Hill has been tweeting through his emotions since the video went viral.

Hill certainly was playing out of position, but this is still an unfamiliar feeling for him. He’s usually the one ‘Mossing’ defenders or making them look silly with his speed. It was quite the role-reversal for Hill.

Hill also gave the quarterback some due credit for the nice throw.

Somehow Raiders fans even managed to insert themselves into the conversation.

Hill is set to host another youth football camp in Cedar Rapids, IA this upcoming Saturday, July 18. This time around, I anticipate he’ll be a little more prepared to defend against some of the young stars in attendance.
