Commanders work out veteran OL on Tuesday as injuries mount

With both left tackles banged up, the Commanders worked out a veteran offensive lineman on Tuesday.

The Washington Commanders could not ask for a better start to the 2024 season. After a decade of subpar play under a sketchy administration, the Commanders are bouncing back in a way no one expected. With a 6-2 record, they hold the top spot in the NFC East.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is magical to watch on the field. He’s consistent, remains poised under pressure, and is a pass-first quarterback with Michael Vick-like rushing ability. Which is good because he’s got an offensive line that’s kinda banged up right now, which is why the Commanders decided to work out offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste on Tuesday.

The New England Patriots drafted Cajuste in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft. He played four seasons there; the Patriots did not extend his rookie contract. He spent 2023 on the New York Jets practice squad and joined the New York Giants practice squad that same year.

Given the injuries to Brandon Coleman and Cornelius Lucas, the Commanders are being proactive in securing depth in case one or both of them cannot play this Sunday.

The great thing about the Commanders, though, is that Daniels likely won’t have an issue no matter who lines up at left tackle. He can move, and he can move well, and he can throw while he’s moving. He has the ability to carry the offense if he has to, but he probably won’t have to because this team has something that not many Commanders’ teams have had in the past: Unity.

So, work out the potential gap-fillers, but also know that this team is so united that Jayden Daniels won’t have to do it alone.

Giants sign two rookies, waive Ryder Anderson

The New York Giants have waived/injured Ryder Anderson, placed Yodny Cajuste on IR, and signed two undrafted rookies.

The New York Giants waived defensive lineman Ryder Anderson on Monday with an injury designation and placed offensive lineman Yodny Cajuste on injured reserve (IR). Both players were hurt in last Saturday’s preseason game in Houston.

In corresponding roster moves, they added two undrafted rookies to the roster — defensive lineman Kyler Baugh and linebacker Trey Kiser.

Baugh was signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Minnesota this spring and was waived on August 14. He played 10 snaps in the Saints’ first preseason game.

Kiser was recently waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played his college ball at South Alabama.

Cajuste seemed unlikely to make the Giants’ regular season roster, but Anderson was likely a shoo-in. Should he clear waivers, he will revert to injured reserve (IR).

The Giants have one more preseason game, this Saturday night against the Jets before they have to trim their roster to 53 players next Tuesday.

Giants place Jason Pinnock on IR, sign two from practice squad

The New York Giants have placed safety Jason Pinnock on injured reserve (IR), signed two from the practice squad and elevated two others.

Having already been declared out for Sunday’s season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles, the New York Giants placed safety Jason Pinnock on injured reserve (IR).

Pinnock, who had a strong season after replacing Julian Love, suffered a toe injury during a Week 16 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He was spelled by Dane Belton, who promptly recorded three takeaways.

In 16 games this season, Pinnock recorded 85 tackles (59 solo, six for a loss), two forced fumbles, four QB hits, 2.0 sacks, six passes defensed, two interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.

With two spots available on the 53-man roster, the Giants also signed quarterback Jacob Eason and tight end Tyree Jackson from the practice squad.

Eason will provide additional backup at the quarterback spot with start Tyrod Taylor dealing with a back injury.

“Ty was on the injury report, so we figured we’d get another quarterback in here, see where he was in practice, and he’s done a good job,” head coach Brian Daboll said this week.

Finally, the Giants also elevated kicker Mason Crosby and offensive lineman Yodny Cajuste from the practice squad.

Giants restore Cole Beasley to practice squad, release two

The New York Giants have restored WR Cole Beasley to their practice squad, added a veteran OT and terminated the contracts of two others.

The New York Giants made a series of roster moves on Tuesday, beginning with wide receiver Cole Beasley being restored to the practice squad.

The Giants signed Beasley prior to the start of training camp and he appeared destined to make the 53-man roster before suffering a quad injury and being waived as a part of final cuts. He was quickly re-signed to the practice squad with an injured reserved designation.

Due to the designation, Beasley was ineligible to play for the first four weeks of the season.

In addition to Beasley, the Giants also signed veteran offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste to their practice squad.

The 27-year-old Cajuste was a third-round pick of the New England Patriots in the 2019 NFL draft. After four seasons playing under Bill Belichick, he signed with the New York Jets this past May but was waived/injured in early August. A week later, he was released with an injury settlement.

Now healthy, the 6-foot-5, 310-pound Cajuste provides the Giants with a much-needed swing tackle.

In order to clear room on their practice squad for Beasley and Cajuste, the Giants terminated the contracts of cornerback Amani Oruwariye and wide receiver Cam Sims.

Giants hold workouts for Yodny Cajuste, three others

The New York Giants held workouts for four players on Friday, including offensive lineman Yodny Cajuste.

The New York Giants quietly held workouts on Friday, hosting four players in East Rutherford, New Jersey, including offensive lineman Yodny Cajuste.

In addition to Cajuste, safety Nico Bolden and running backs Tyler Goodson and Ellis Merriweather were also in town.

The 27-year-old Cajuste was a third-round pick of the New England Patriots in the 2019 NFL draft. He spent four years playing for Bill Belichick before having a cup of coffee with the New York Jets this offseason.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Cajuste has appeared in 17 career games with five starts.

Goodson, 22, signed with the Green Bay Packers as a rookie free agent out of Iowa in 2022. He spent the vast majority of his first season on the team’s practice squad before being elevated in late December.

After an impressive training camp was cut short due to a shoulder injury, the Packers released Goodson with an injury settlement earlier this week.

Bolden was signed by the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent and released as a part of final cuts. Similarly, Merriweather was inked to an undrafted free agent contract by the New Orleans Saints before being released in late August as a part of the team’s final cuts.

Merriweather was briefly signed to the Saints’ practice squad but that lasted just 24 hours.

63 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 63 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 63 jersey number.

Training camp is only a few weeks away, and the New England Patriots are now just 63 days from their season-opening game.

Football is almost back.

To celebrate the upcoming NFL season, we’re continuing our countdown series by listing every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 63 jersey. Offensive guard Chasen Hines currently wears the jersey, but there are 19 other players that have worn it at some point in time.

One of the players that come to mind is former guard Joe Andruzzi, who went on to win three Super Bowls with the Patriots. He’s also a former All-Dynasty Team member after spending five seasons in New England.

Oh, and there’s no way we could do this list without remembering Dan Connolly and this legendary play.

Here’s every Patriots player that has worn the No. 63:

72 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 72 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 72 jersey number.

In celebration of the regular season opener only being 72 days away, we are listing every Patriots player that has worn the No. 72.

One of the immediate players that come to mind is three-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion, offensive tackle Matt Light, who spent 10 years with the Patriots.

Light has already been inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame, and he’s also a member of the Patriots’ All-Dynasty Team. He spent his entire career contributing to the early beginnings of the greatest dynasty in NFL history.

And of course, he wasn’t the only one.

So many great players have come before and after Light became a household name in New England. Here’s every Patriots player that wore the No. 72 throughout the franchise’s history (via Pro Football Reference):

Another former Patriots offensive lineman signs with AFC East rival

A former Patriots third-round draft pick is joining the Jets.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Former New England Patriots offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste is reportedly signing with the New York Jets.

Cajuste, a third-round draft pick, was released by the Patriots earlier in May. It was a disappointing turn of events for the former Big 12 Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Things never turned out as expected in New England, despite there being plenty of attempts for Cajuste to separate himself from the pack in 2022. However, instead of giving the former West Virginia Mountaineer another shot, the Patriots moved on after signing veterans Riley Reiff, Conor McDermott and Calvin Anderson.

Cajuste isn’t the only former Patriots offensive lineman that has chosen to stay within the AFC East division. Former Patriots first-round draft pick Isaiah Wynn signed a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins as well.

So there won’t be any shortage of familiar faces the Patriots will be seeing with the opposition in the 2023 season.

Jets signing offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste

Jets adding more tackle help

The Jets are adding more depth at the offensive tackle position. The team is signing offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste, per Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Cajuste played 17 games over the last two seasons for the New England Patriots, including 10 last season with three starts.

Cajuste is a former third-round pick of the Patriots in 2019 but missed each of his first two seasons due to injury. The Patriots originally re-signed Cajuste as a restricted free agent before releasing him earlier this month.

Cajuste adds to an offensive tackle room that now has plenty of depth. The group now includes Duane Brown, Mekhi Becton, Billy Turner, Carter Warren, Max Mitchell and Cajuste.

Ex-Patriot Yodny Cajuste already has visits lined up with Patriots’ rivals

It might not take ex-Patriot Yodny Cajuste long to find another job.

[anyclip pubname=”2103″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8036″]

Former New England Patriots offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste didn’t have to wait long for his phone to start ringing.

After being released by the Patriots last Thursday, the former third-round draft pick is reportedly expected to visit with the New York Jets on Monday and New York Giants on Tuesday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The Jets are the Patriots’ AFC East rivals, and the Giants have a long history with the Patriots, along with being on their 2023 regular season schedule. So if Cajuste does end up signing with one of the organizations, he won’t have to wait long to face his former team.

Cajuste never took off for the Patriots the way the team envisioned.

The opportunity was clearly there in the 2022 season with the team dealing with all kinds of injuries along the offensive front. Yet, Cajuste continued to drag behind and never really succeeded in a chance to separate from the pack.

Given how high he was drafted, it’s no surprise other teams would want to get a close-up look at him in their offense. Perhaps a change of scenery will do him some good.
