There has been a good mix of captains so far this season, showing the plethora of leadership Michigan State and Mel Tucker has on this football team.

The countless leaders are a big reason why Michigan State is 6-0 and still going strong so far in 2021.

Michigan State has a date with Indiana this week, trying to recover the Old Brass Spittoon from Bloomington. The Spartans announced who would be captaining the team in Indiana for the game.

Jacob Slade, Xavier Henderson, Kenneth Walker and Blake Bueter will be leading the Spartans against the Hoosiers this Saturday.

Luke Campbell, Jalen Nailor, Kenneth Walker and Xavier Henderson will be captaining the Spartans this week in Piscataway for a date with Rutgers.

It is that time of week again, where we found out who will be leading the Spartans as captains for the upcoming week.

Safety Xavier Henderson, TE/H-back Connor Heyward and WR Jayden Reed will be the leadership team, leading the Spartans into battle with Western Kentucky this weekend.

MSU will look to improve to 5-0 on the season with a win on Saturday.

It is now known that the Mel Tucker era will feature weekly captains, and that they will be different on a game to game basis. We are now in week four and will be seeing another unique combination at the captain spots.

The one new thing we also will see this week, is a fourth captain has been added to the line of captains. The previous three weeks we had only seen 3 captains.

In week four against Nebraska, we will see Xavier Henderson, Tyler Hunt, Drew Beesley and Kevin Jarvis captain the Spartans against the Cornhuskers.

Michigan State football will take on No. 24 this weekend in Florida in a big-time match up, and we now know who their team captains will be.

They will be:

  • WR Jayden Reed
  • S Xavier Henderson
  • C Matt Allen

All three players had huge games last weekend against Youngstown State and their strong play was recognized by coach Mel Tucker. This is Henderson’s third straight week as a team captain. This will be Reed and Allen’s first time this season.

Xavier Henderson has been one of the most consistent defenders on the Michigan State defense throughout his time in East Lansing.

Henderson’s consistency and production is finall getting recognized, as he has been graded by Pro Football Focus (PFF) as the No. 1 safety in the country through week two.

Henderson will continue to lead the Spartans in what they hope is a successful season.

Michigan State kept the Youngstown State Penguins out of the endzone early in the second quarter on an incredible one-handed interception from safety Xavier Henderson.

The Penguins were driving and appeared to be on their way to their first score of the game. However, Henderson ended that drive with an awesome interception. Had he not came over to make the play, it appeared Youngstown State would have connected for a 29-yard touchdown.

Last week, in the season opener against Northwestern, Michigan State named Xavier Henderson, Jalen Nalor and Drew Beesley as captains for the game.

This week, Xavier Henderson was named a captain once again, but he will be joined by two new faces.

Connor Heyward and Matt Coghlin will join Xavier Henderson as captains in the home opener against Youngstown State. All three players are currently in their senior seasons and will be playing in their last home openers.
